Let's be truthful - a lot of head-fiers just don't have the money to buy new equipment from time to time(I for one). So...what do you guys think are really great bang-for-the-buck deals right now?

Some things that might come into mind:

Koss KSC-35/75, Sennheiser HD201, Ety ER6i (buy.com sales), Refurb HD580/590?, etc.

I hope this thread can help some people save money, because being an audiophile shouldn't just be about spending big bucks. Something can still sound good and not break the bank at the same time.

Hmm.. tough choice. I'd say KSC-35 and HD201. The KSC-35 sounds better to me, but the HD201 isolates. Both of them are great bargains, and I honestly think I'd be happy owning only those two 'phones. They can't compete with the big boys, but they're reasonably accurate and fun to listen to, and that's what counts in the end, right?

price points - 20 bucks? ksc-35 on ebay from creative's NOS dump.

50 bucks? SR60. oh yeah.

100 bucks? MS-1, no contest.

150 bucks? used SR225!

200 bucks? used MS-2 (old style).

250 bucks? used MS-2i (new style)

(tween here and there get a new/used HD650 if you can)

300 bucks? new MS-2i, or a used RS-2 if you can find one.

~~~~~~
450 bucks? used RS-1.
under $1k? HP-2!
over $1K? there ain't no more bargains man!
under $20 = KSC75 (IMHO the 75 betters the KSC35 because you can bend the earhook and mod it very easily... not everyones ears are identical).
under $70 = KSC75 + PA2/cmoy -OR- SR60
under $100 = K240s
under $200 = used MS2(open), DT770-80 (closed)
under $300 = used MS2 + govibe/PA2/cmoy -OR- DT770 + govibe/PA2/cmoy
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the AKG K501's---prestige phone sonics at a bargain price. Well ..., there is a hidden cost in that one needs a robust amp with plenty of oomph to drive them properly. Still, a sure fire bargain.
+1 for SR-60, and also (yet to own) I have read the DT-880 isn't too bad a deal too.
Sorry for hijacking this thread quickly, but what kind of amp is required for the K501s? I recently bought a JMT PIMETA would that be ok? Considering the K501 or the HD600/595/580
I just got my HD580's from eCost for $115 plus $10 overnight shipping (I just couldn't wait!!!) I've just listened for an hour or so & I'm blown away!! Must mention they are my first Senn's. Jazz & Classical never sounded so good! For the price I'd have to say these are something wonderful!
I also have the porta-pros & the MS1's & they are both great for the price as well.
The 650s a really great buy. They have incredible sonic ability for $330 new that rivals (and even tops some) equipment costing much more.
