Hi all,

What is a good DAC(+AMP) to connect to my laptop that holds a lot of CD rips (flac). It needs to be able to drive 300ohm headphones. Does this mean I need to hook up the DAC to a separate AMP?

There are lot of options out there, searching the forums will yield quite a few results. I am part of the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD6XX drop, these are practically the same as the HD650. As of now I plan on using a Schiit Modi Multibit DAC and a Schiit Magni 2 Uber. If you want something cheaper or portable you would have to look into other options that I am not as familiar with besides the Schiit Fulla 2, which might not be enough power.

You need to state your budget dude...
For reasonable priced option, Schiit Jotunheim & Audio-GD NFB-11 pairs well with HD650

Yes that's the one. Put a better 12AU7 tube in it and it's amazing. I'll have to post a review, but it's comparing well with Dynahi, ATHA5000 and Krell KSA5. Measured it can output 20V, which makes driving HD800 effortless.

You mean it's providing the same quality as the ATHA5000? That's a $900 unit...


But this XDUOO TA-03 is an AMP+DAC itself.

... And a commercially built Dynahi is about $1500... Yes that's China for you. Price doesn't scale with performance as you can see everywhere else with audio.

What about the XDUOO TA-20 from Ali? And with a separate DAC like the Cambridge DACmagic 100?
