I am currently looking to replace my entire stock of mid-range headphones with something that will keep me satisfied... for a while anyway

My previous headphone experiences are with the Beyer DT150s, HFi-780s and Shure SRH-840s.

Anyway, I have been looking at the Denon D5000 and more recently I am leaning towards the Lawton MD5000s.

As for use, I normally use my desktop PC for listening to music and gaming. I would say 40% music (mostly rock) 60% gaming. I have an Auzentech X-fi Forte card, so I hope that will suffice for an amp for a while.

Now, would the D5000/MD5000s be a good fit for me? Also, with the MD5000 how much bass do they lose in the mod process?

MD5000 is fantastic for gaming. Stock not so much as the drivers are flat.

Both are great for rock.

The Denon AH-D5000 provides superior sound quality in a lightweight and comfortable package. The magnesium frame keeps weight down, while the adjustable headband and thick cushions provide lasting comfort, good for those who spent hours on gaming.

Should be noted that the MD5000s are quite a bit heavier.

I have no problem with that, just as long as they are comfortable.

Can anyone tell me how what kind of isolation you get with the Lawton MD5000s? Those deep ear pads have to provide some sort of isolation right?

They have very good isolation as far as keeping sounds out, but they aren't good at keeping sounds in (better than open cans, but not on par with most closed).

That's good to hear as my main concern is sound leaking in.

Does anyone know how the Lawton MD5000s compare to the W5000s?

I know the headphones are two different beasts but for my purpose (mostly gaming and some music) would the W5000s be an upgrade over the MD5000s?

I know this is ultimately futile, but I want to get a really nice set of headphones that will cure my upgraditis.... for a while anyway.

Depends on the kind of music. The MD5000s have some of the best soundstage I've heard for gaming and their overall sound signature makes footsteps come out very clearly in FPS games.

Audio-Technicas tend to be very, very good for gaming, but for music unless you're a classical, vocal or blues/jazz fan, you'd be far better off with the MD5000s.

Just tried gaming on my D7000s and all I can say is meh. Explosions sounded AWESOME but for mutiplayer gaming the soundstage isn't up to par with my HD595. For Single player probably still go for the HD595 for the atmosphere but I'm sure the D7000s sound awesome for movies.

They use the stock pads, the lip that holds them in place is stuffed with some sonically transparent material to give a similar effect to that of the JMoney pads. The J$ pads are somewhat thicker, made of real leather so they breathe on your head and you don't sweat, and have a better seal.

On the other hand, the markl pads are debatably more comfortable due to softer padding.
