I cant find much any comparison of these headphones, could anyone give a rough comparison between the AD900x and AD1000x?

Im surprised that their isnt bigger price gaps between the different models.

Does the 2000X still hold up today against other $500~ headphones?

Basically each successive one is better than the last as they're all from exactly the same family.

So AD2000X>AD1000X>AD900X>AD700X>AD500X.

There is also a new one in the family at the top which is the ADX5000.

do you know the differences in sound between 1000x and 2000x? Im not sure if I should pay the extra 200 for the 2000x

Actually the 1000x is €330 euro and the 2000x is €440, not a huge increase

I own the original AD2000(non-X version). Its a hard headphone to come by and quite amp picky too. Its incredibly fast for a dynamic headphone(some claim fastest ever).I like it for metal, female vocals and trance. Its a bit on the dry side and not the most engaging headphone I've ever heard, but overall I like it.

I have read several times that the 2000x(havent heard it personally) is inferior to the original.YMMV.

I only have experience with the AD900X unfortunately. Although I've seen from reviewers that the AD2000X is the most refined in terms of sound and best built.

I own the 700, 900, 1k, and decided not to get the 2k after hearing it a few times.

The AD series is great for its soundstage and the feeling of openness.

The 900 can be considered a direct upgrade to the 700, it does everything the 700 does but better.
Starting from the 1k, significant amounts of (lower-mid) bass are added.
The 700/900/1000 can be considered bright depending on what you are used to, but the 2k is a very warm headphone.

To me, the 1k is probably the most balanced and the one to get if it is going to be your only headphone.

In fact, I would consider the 1k and 2k to be in a separate series to the 700/900.
They are not really direct upgrades all the way up the series.

If you are after M50 bass impact, you are looking at the wrong stuff.
The bass bloat and lack of control on the M50 is replicated in the 2k (but to a lesser extent than the M50), so in terms of similarity I would probably consider the 2K to be the most similar. But the M50 leans towards a darker signature where as the 2k is more warm (i.e. the bass bloat is concentrated on a slightly higher frequency on the 2k).

It would appear to me that maybe you would be more satisfied with something like the fostex X00 rather than these....
