Hello,

I'm currently set on buying a pair of DT-880 600Ω, but would like to hear if anyone has suggestions for alternatives. I was looking at Ultrasone Pro 900s and K702s, but came to the conclusion that K702 doesn't fit my liking for electronic music. The Pro 900s seems great for electronic music, but I want headphones to use for a wide range of genres.

A friend has built an AMB CK²III which I really like, and might eventually buy one for myself (not looking to build one, anyone selling?). Will it fit well with the DT-880 600s?

I will also be using my Macbook Pro as source but a new DAC will be another thing to worry about if I feel like upgrading, I suppose.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the CKIII is a great amp and will power the DT880 /600's fine and to justice.
For a wide range of genres, the DT880 / 600 would be a better bet. I'm pretty sure the Pro900 is more expensive than the DT880 / 600.

Great! Many people seem to like tubes with the DT880s (Darkvoice specifically?).

Yes, they're more expensive :)

Now I'll just have to sell my DT770s, expensive cables, and Hornet. I have an iMod I want to save as source, but that might change if munch can convince me to get something else. He's the evil that let me listen to his rig.

Edit: There, he did it. I will sell my iMod and get a y2 (Gamma2) for stationary home use. Portable rig will be a later consideration.

The Darkvoice 337 Dual Mono amp was designed using these headphones and one other pair (some AKG K something) that escapes my memory at the moment. This tube amp should make those things sing, especially the 600ohm version. I have this amp with a DT770/80 Pro with this amp, and I plan on getting some DT880 600s for this reason. Enjoy :)

I own both at the moment and I prefer the Pro 900s overall.  They are much more bass-oriented but sound amazing overall.  The DT880s have a very high SQ but the bass is lacking.  I'd say the DT880s are great as a reference headphone but the Pro 900s are amazing as a fun headphone.  I am sending the DT880s back and keeping the Pro 900s.

The DT880s are far more comfortable though with the nice silver velour pads.  I am looking in to getting velour pads for my 900s and that should take care of that.

Overall, both are great headphones, just depends if you want to have fun with your media or if you want to analyze it.

Now I didn't use them with a tube amp, but a solid state.  More specifically, the E9/E7 combo so I am sure they would sound better with a warm tube.  The 900s sound great on the E7/E9 so I guess it depends on your amp setup at the moment.

I own the DT880 600ohm and connected to a Little Dot MKIII they just make me travel to unimaginable beautiful places. They're as comfortable as old slippers. They just connect me with my music. I listen mainly to Jazz Classical and Funk though. For these genres and with my equipment, the bass is not lacking at all. It's actually thick and textured at the same time. I don't know how these would work with electronica though.
