Upgrading from ATH-M50's can anyone who has heard both of these cans share their experience and which they favored for what reasons?
I know the 880 is more linear and accurate but I think it might lack "life" you know that zest just because its so focused on being precise,
on the other hand I wonder if the treble or bass on the 990's will be too pronounced.

Uhg now I am looking at the Sen HD 598's I really cant decide between these 3, BTW do you think an ASUS Xonar_DG's highest amp setting would be good enough for the 250 ohm Beyer models?

The Xonar DG will power 250-ohm Beyerdynamic's decently.
But hopefully you would add an external headphone amplifier in the future.
For around $70 (or more) you can get a single tube headphone amplifier, off eBay, ships from China.

Are you okay with using an equalizer? If so, they both should be very good choices. Just tame the treble a bit.

PurpleAngel I have heard the HD558's are pretty close to the 598's how do you like your 558's vs your DT 990's? I also owned a pair of Samson SR850's and the treble screeching on the high end hurt my ears haha, do you find any of the previously mentioned cans to do the same on the high end? I know the DT 990's can be overly bright.

I was also checking out cheap tube amps, Amazon has 1 with 2 good reviews although it is a hybrid and one of the reviewers even has a pair of DT 990's, it can be found here http://www.amazon.com/MUSE-Class-Hybrid-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B006LC91E2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339311221&sr=8-1 
But I am thinking it might be safer to go with a Fiio E7 not sure yet.

I would not be against it but I don't have previous experience messing around with it

I got a chance to listen to the DT990s at a head-fi meet, while I do agree with what everyone says about the difference between two (how DT990s have more bass and treble) they bought sounded good to me.
 
I even got a chance to listen to the T1 (which are amazing btw), however, after listening to so many headphones, it made me appreciate what I have. I don't have as much disposable income as others, so I learned to be happy with what I have. 
 
To be honest, I'm sure you'll like either headphones. They really are great. You just need to have good quality music and enjoy what comes from it

The Senn HD558s and DT990 both have their positives.
The DT990 are great for the "movie theater" type sound.
The Muse would be great for use with 250-Ohm headphones (like the DT990).
The HD558s are more balanced and can be used for anything, as they are only 50-Ohm, you know you can plug them in anywhere.

Thanks for all your help guys, gonna mull it over although there is one more thing that I am wondering about, is there an audible difference between the DT 990 Pro and Premium? as far as I know the pro's just clamp more and have more plastic but I cant find frequency charts to compare the Pro and Premium.

I would say to get the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm, with the cash you save over the Premium you can buy a low cost single tube amplifier off eBay.
Amazon is also stocking Muse tube amplifiers.

Yep I am going with the DT 990 PRO's and a Muse tube hybrid

The tube amp burned out, using a Fiio E10 for now, got about 40 hours burn in on the DT 990 Pro's and they sound nice, bass is just right and it seems pretty tight, but at higher volumes the treble kinda drowns everything out and makes it sound harsh gotta say slightly disappointed (Mids just seem so distant).
Gonna give it some more burn in and see if things even out.
