DUNU - Discussion/Impressions Master Thread
Dec 17, 2021 at 3:59 AM Post #32 of 2,461

Beginning with the TITAN 1, the TITAN series has always stood for value from DUNU. Over the past nearly eight years, it has spawned seven different models, countless adherents, and hundreds of pages of forum discussion.

Now, TITAN is reborn: with a rebooted, cyberpunk-inspired design language, an over-ear wear style, and removable 2-pin connectors, TITAN S is made for the modern era, carrying the torch for value-driven DUNU products.

Toss the TITAN S into your bag or your pocket by keeping the cable organized with our integrated cable wrapper, or stash it in the included leatherette case.

The body-matched overmolds of the 2-pin connectors flow directly into a sturdy zinc alloy body built to be scratch resistant and lightweight, able to withstand the rigors of everyday use.

Included with every TITAN S are also three different sets of ear tips intended for a slightly different tonal balance: balanced (grey), vocal (blue core), and bass (red core).

At the heart of this all-new design is an 11 mm dynamic driver with a multi-layered, polycondensated liquid crystal polymer diaphragm, lightweight CCAW voice coil, N52 internal magnet, and dual-chambered housing.

The driver is an exercise in going back to basics --- voiced for clean precision, TITAN S is the musical companion you can live with daily.

Looking forward to hearing more about Vulcan!

We'll have more on the VULKAN early next year. For now, we'd like to get TITAN S off the ground.

Could we get an estimate of when the DUW-02S will be going up? I thought they'd go up together so I was hoping to pick both up so they ship together.
We wanted to release them together as well but there's a small holdup with the packaging.

There are things that we're working on related to the FALCON PRO, but we have nothing further to announce at this time.
I am quite intrigued. I need a DUNU take on the Dusk tuning with the Falcon Pro. Or I might opt for the SA4... win/win either way. Hopefully the SA4 has a Sonion mid BA.

If you're looking for a hybrid, the VULKAN will be the one to look out for.

My Zen Pro impressions

I reviewed the new Titan S.

Disclosure: This is based on a pre-production copy of the Titan S, which Dunu tells me is the same as the retail.

Summary:
  • Titan S competes well with the Moondrop Aria, with sufficiently differentiated tuning that there will be fans of either. I personally take the more bright-neutral tuning of the Titan S over the Aria, which I find a bit warm.
  • Tuning is generally quite pleasant for me, with vocals a tad forward, treble well extended, and a tasteful (but mild) sub-bass boost.
  • vs. Aria, Titan excels in definition in the low end, and avoids getting smeared with busier music passages.
  • Only small warning here is the treble is not silky smooth -- can have a slight scratchy character on things like high hat. It's not uncomfortable, but present.
  • Also, love the quirky aesthetics here.

Oh since this is Dunu-general thread, I also recently reviewed the Zen Pro:

Summary:
  • This is probably my favorite 1xDD IEM I've heard. I don't think it's top in every category, but tuning is great, just a smidge warmth in the low end vs. my target that doesn't obscure the phenomenal midrange resolution.
  • vs. OG Zen, I think tonality on Pro is a big improvement. BUT it does trade the impressive bass character that dominates the sound of the OG Zen. Bass on Zen Pro is still very solid and has a nice, better-than-average physicality, but doesn't have the same presence of the original bass.
  • I think Zen Pro is a much stronger all-rounder, with perhaps less unique character vs. OG Zen. When I heard a pre-production Zen Pro, I also got a bit of sibilance in the trade, which made me rate the two about equal. But this production copy does not sound sibilant to me, which makes it easier to enjoy the tonality and micro contrast in the mids.
  • If DD timbre is important for you, I haven't heard anything better. In my review, I didn't compare it with similarly-priced 1xDDs like Moondrop Illumination and Fiio FD7 because I don't think they compete (KATO and FDX1 are closer). Zen Pro doesn't have quite the technical wow factor of similarly priced multi-BA / hybrid / tribrid sets, but they have different tradeoffs.
