Sorry if I missed this somehow, but do the IE900 require proprietary ear tips like previous Senn IEMs? Can I use non-Senn ear tips?
These use the same tips as the IE 300, and should fit most tips with an inner bore diameter around 4.7-4.9mm, pretty much the most common bore size for exchanging tips. Smaller tips may not be able to stretch around the flared lip on the IE 900’s nozzle that helps hold the tips in place. Personally, I have pretty narrow diameter ear canals (though my outer ears are plenty big!), and I was able to fit a number of foam tips from different manufacturers, but the stock small Sennheiser tips fit me fine.

All good points raised. It remains a bit of an enigma. But alas veering off topic; and certainly not unique to these IEMs or Sennheiser or audio gear.

One final thought / consideration - most products in the US come with a 1-year warranty as opposed to the mandatory 2-year in the EU.
Sennheiser products have a global 2 year warranty. :)

Some further testing vs MEST MKII... my initial impressions of the bass capability have changed - MEST can indeed deliver powerful bass but I find I need to push the volume up a lot, to the detriment of highs as it becomes quite harsh and fatiguing - the IE 900 delivers on bass at lower volumes and while treble very evident, its by no means harsh. MEST sounds quite bright when switching between the two. Still lots of testing to do... I don't even trust my own first impressions, takes time to adjust and cycle through genres etc.

Yes, I’ve seen the FR graphs, but I too am still getting used to the practical reality of the IE 900 sound. What have been some of your highlight songs so far? For me, ones that have really stood out have been:

“Yoda’s Theme” from The Empire Strikes Back (original motion picture soundtrack) by John Williams
“notturno” from Formae by Lino Cannavacciuolo
“Overture” from the Halo 3 ODST original soundtrack by Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori
“Choral” from Choral by Stefan Obermaier
“Angel” from Mezzanine by Massive Attack
“Mr. Blue Sky” from Out Of the Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
“House of Cards” from In Rainbows by Radiohead
“Undisclosed Desires” from The Resistance by Muse

“Yoda’s Theme” gave me chills, and I look forward to finding more songs! I’m working on making a playlist (again) of songs that seem to show the headphone’s strength’s, and I’ll make it public and collaborative so others can add stuff :)
