I've heard good stuff about the Fiio E10 and I'm wondering how well does this amp pair up with either the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900?
 
The DAC will be used with both my desktop and my laptop (MacBook Air 13.3"). I still haven't really decided on which headphones to get, but it seems like both of these Audio-Technica headphones dominate their respective price range. If you were me, which combination would you go with?

The ATH-M50 should have more bass then the AD900, but I'm guessing the AD900 would have a better over all sound.
The ATH-M50 has been dropping in price, done to $132
The ATH-AD AD900 is going for $220

Where can you get the M50 for $132? Would you say that the M50 deliver at least 85% of the sound quality that the AD900 will deliver? I'm trying to figure out whether I can justify an upgrade to the AD900. This will be my first set of decent headphones so I do want to get it right.

In regards to the Fiio E10, is this an adequate DAC for my desktop and laptop? I would like to bring it around with me. My budget is around $150 for a DAC. I don't need a battery powered DAC. It'll just be for my room and the hotel room.

With a $150, you could also consider the Fiio E17.

I thought the difference between the E10 and E17 is that it have an external battery for portable use. Doesn't the E10 and E17 have the same sound quality?
