It's an Android device, so there are loads of third-party apps that will rotate the screen into any orientation you want from a widget in the notification shade. You can even set specific apps to automatically open in specific orientations. This will only work in the "Android Mode" mode, as the other inputs all switch the screen back to portrait mode when in use.
The main problem is that most music apps I've tried aren't designed to be used in landscape mode on tiny-low resolution screens like the R7, but then I guess the Android DACs/Streamers that have landscape screens must have a specific first-party music player that has been specifically designed to worker better in landscape mode.
For reference, this is what the FiiO Music app looks like on the R7 in landscape mode (only two songs visible at a time in lists and the "now playing" screen can't fit the whole album art in or the file metadata which is usually below it):
I'm definitely glad that the R7 has a portrait display, Android and its apps are not built to be run in landscape mode on anything smaller than a tablet.
Side note, has anyone else experienced the issue where the "home button" gesture and the notification shade just stop working, as in I can't pull the notification shade down at all or exit from an application using the swipe up from bottom of screen gesture? This has happened to me multiple times, and even when I switched from gesture navigation mode to the three buttons at the bottom of the screen (the on-screen ones, not the capacative ones below the screen), those also stopped appearing/working at all at some points. Had to restart the entire device to fix.
