What has stopped me buying ELAC speakers is having to set up my room for them.

I'd have thought the Naim DAC V1 would be the natural pairing for these new Focal phones

Maybe a better way to say that is there is no need for YOU to buy a set unless YOU have a high end set up. ...right? Your standards aren't necessarily the same as others ....wouldn't you agree?

Yes, it's me.

I wouldn't put a Ferrari engine in a Honda Civic.

I do understand that some people would want to.

Hahahaha that's a bit extreme don't you think? Let us know what you think after you've actually heard the Focals in your awesome system

What has stopped me from setting up my newform research 645 is the work to do it, I would get 10 minutes a day to listen due to complaints by my wife of the sound, and having to setup the room. lol

What keeps me from buying the Utopia . . . . . I am working on that one. I would love to read some more impressions.

Well, my cheap AKG K240 (I bought it for $99 more than 10 years ago?) runs circles around the HD 650 if the HD 650 is on the iPhone and the AKG K240 is on the Chord Hugo + Taurus MKII. You'd be quite suprised how good cheap headphones can sound on a proper setup.

I agree better DACs and amps can make equal difference in sound as a better headphone would. My chord mojo or Dave makes most headphones sound great.

I had the opportunity to listen both the Utopia and the Elear at Jude's office las Friday. I brought my Wells Audio Enigma (with upgrades almost to the HeadTrip level) with me. I used a WireWorld Electra PC for the Enigma and WireWorld Eclipse 6 from Jude's Chord Dave to the Enigma.
I tried the Elear with the Dana cable and also with a Silver Dragon. The Utopia had a Black Dragon cable. IMO the Utopia is technically a better headphone but there is something regarding the tonallity of the Elear that is really nice. I think the Utopia is more revealing so one need to be careful pairing them with the right equipment and cables upstream otherwise you can end up with a little too much energy in the upper tones. With the equipment and cables used it sounded really nice with tons of detail and a very holographic and expanded soundstage. The Elear IMO was not too far behind and I consider it a more forgiving headphone  due to the slight warmer sound. The Silver Dragon brought out a little bit more spark but I really like its sound with the Dana. The Utopia are beautiful made, I really like the carbon fiber yoke, the leather ear pads and the finish on the cups. Both are very comfortable.

At $4K the Utopia are a little harder to justify but at $1K IMO the Elear are a no brainer. I would like to buy the Utopia in the future but for now I just placed and order for the Elear.

mmm.......I'm particularly interested in how the Chord TT pairs well with the Utopia. Hope someone at Canjam London 2016 will be able to test and post impression. TIA.

@third_eye has a TT and a Utopia right now, I think.  Maybe he could speak to it...

Yes, it's exactly what I'm saying.

It sounds like from musician's impressions the more forgiving Elear would be a better fit for most people.

Yup, Elear with expensive cable like DHC or Danacable will getting close to Utopia. Get Utopia much later if DHC can do thriplethread adapter from LEMO to 3.5 mm, best of both worlds.

Is the Elear available now? I am very interested in listening to it...I might have to buy it to try it.

Is my understanding that the first batch from The SourceAV is sold out. Apparently they will be getting more from the manufacturer in 10 days to 2 weeks. That's when I am getting mine.
