I 100% agree. So the problem may be the cables.

maybe I was not clear..... both cd player and SP1000 are connected to Preamp and then they are using witchhat cables going from pre to headphone amp.....

Sp1000 as a source is not staying behind the naim cd555...... so not bad from a small dap

the cd has naim SL interconnects to pre so there is no issues there with a naimpower line as well sitting on a naim rack

whenever i see arguments arise in the forum threads over the measured performance of various dacs and head amps, i do wonder if the differences between them (which are often minute) can actually be heard

@silversurfer616 The Utopia's should net you plenty of hours of enjoyment. They are one of the best dynamic headphones I've heard. Congrats on the purchase

I just try the stuff thats in my signature; apart from the Bryston it is all slightly on the warmer side, so that should suit the Utopia....I guess!?

I just jumped into a pair of Utopia myself. Took a lot of reading and listening to do it, but hey, you only live once...

I am wondering, the pair I got sounds a bit thin in the midtones compared to the demo model I auditioned from the retailer (yes, an official retailer). Is that normal for the burn in period?

Can’t say — I burned mine in unattended.

But it could also be a chain difference. Utopia is very revealing of what’s driving it. Not power hungry, but it can really change character.

If the ‘thin sound’ persists, you might look at your chain compared to the chain you listened to in the store.
