Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Feb 26, 2016 at 12:37 PM Post #5,116 of 12,087
Hey. I ordered my TH-X00 on the last drop and now I am looking for an amp or amp/dac combo.
What are you guys using?
I am thinking about Lake People G109 vs iFi micro iCan SE or Chord Mojo vs Grace Design M9XX (but that is hard to get).
Any other recommendations? Thx

Mojo really lifted my listening experience to a next level over iFi Micro iCan.
I'd say go for Mojo or M9XX. I heard, the latter is equally good. But with Mojo you get portability as well.

+1

comparing the two the past few days, the HE500's take it by a fair margin IMO

+ 2

I use a Parasound Zamp to drive my HE-500's and drive it from the speaker taps.  It really makes the HE-500's sing...

But I also enjoy my TH-X00's.  I listen to those with either my Lyr or Emotiva DC-1.

I heard only 400s from HiFiMan (and 400i very briefly). But I wasn't impressed at all.
I still have the itch to try HE-560, or save up for Edition X in the future.
HE-500 just doesn-t seem to be too appealing with its half kilogram weight and demand on serious amping.
If I love X2s with Mojo, and joined the 2nd drop for X00s, would you say, it makes sense for me to try 500s or 560 at all (knowing I didn't really like 400s or 400i)?

The X is very good soundwise - prefer it to my modded HD800s slightly..but wish they improved the headband suspension harnass thingy, still the same as the HE-400i/560...and the cups are a reshaped 400i...they shouldve upped the production value for that price.

You are right.  They are quite heavy.

My next set of Hifimans will be the HE-6...

I've seen a few replacement options for the headphones. My ears are pretty large and it seems like I will have to replace the pads but does anyone have any opinions on replacements that won't dampen the bass and keep the sound as similar as possible? Thanks.

I use TH-900 pads. I prefer them over the original pads - in part because my ears are large.

to the TH X00 user, how the bass perform when you max the bass boost with DAC/AMP like E17k?

Can TH X00 handle it without sounds terrible?

I'm a basshead and waiting for TH X00 this May, I now have E17k, Not sure will stay with this DAC/AMP or not.

But, i have plan to upgrade to TH900 soooooonnnn.. If TH X00 is not good enough

Tbh, I actually think that the V-Moda M-100 is what you're looking for. I have both the TH900 and TH-X00, and both won't satisfy you if you feel that the X2 is neutral.

EDIT: You might want to look at the JVC-SZ2000 as well
