So as it happens, I'm pretty dumb. Washed my earpads. Taped away the crud from the driver covers. Thought it a grand idea to very carefully vacuum them off. Went around the sides on lowest setting. Was thinking: "Don't go over the middle where the driver is!" Went over the middle and heard a light plop.
Got scared. Plugged them in: Right side nothing. Got mad at myself. Kicked the door.

Went back to the gear and moved the balance over to only the right. Very faint sound.

Decided that since they are fawked anyhow, might as well rip it apart. Took off the plastic ring, popped out the driver and removed the driver from the plastic ring. Then it was quite obvious what happened. The membrane, luckily still in one piece without a rip, had moved out of the air gap giving it a convex shape. I lightly pressed it back in using my thumbs around the outside. It stayed in place and the middle part still had the shape it should (not pressed in).

Put it back together and tested it - works just fine.

PHEW!
