I have the Hd650 and Dt250 which i love as i am a bit treble sensitive but i am wanting to get into the grado sound. i have owned  both the sr60 and sr80 and loved the intimacy of the upfront nature of these phones but found the highs too much for my ears. i was wondering if the alessandro ms1 would be a preferred option as it is reported to have tamer highs than its grado counterparts. or if i go up high into the grado chain ie. rs1 or rs2 will their treble be less harsh than the sr60/80?

Or am i barking up the wrong tree?

if you get a chance to auduition the MSPro, well worth it, i'm saving my pennies. Others may confirm that they are not harsh like some Grado phones may be

Given your previous unfavorable experiences - I would only buy them after an audition
or with a money back no questions asked guarantee.

I will reiterate this though - the harshness will depend heavily on the source.
Any badly recorded material or a bright source will greatly affect the harshness
to a large extent.

The Ms1's are less bright...they have a more "balanced" sound signature.

thanks for your replies i am using itunes with cds ripped in lossless format through a benchmark dac 1 which is admittedly a bright source but shouldnt be harsh at all. i found the sibillance very noticeable on the sr60/80s. when you refer to the ms1 being more balanced does this cut down the sibilance as well?

I've heard people said that the Grado HP1000 is very neutral. I haven't listened to it yet. But my SR200 with the HP1000 drivers seems to be a lot more balanced and no aggressive treble at all. A welcome alternative to the normal Grado sound.

Yep, the MS1i should be less forward and bright up top. Still, concerns remain about your sensitivity
coupled with the Benchmark DAC-1 - it's beautiful source but not ideal for a Grado/Alessandro setup.

Maybe pairing it with a cheap warm amp might be the go?

i was looking at your rs2s the other day and am still wanting to give the grado sound a go. what do you reckon rs2 vs ms pro? i really want to try grado/alessandro.

i have a ra1 clone that i can use as an amp

And in case you find the Alessandros still too bright, you could try the tape mod (ring of tape around the edge of the G cush earpads) on them to dampen the highs a little more.
