Does the HD414 mod change the sound of the Grado's compared to the comfy and bowl pads? Or does it just make it more comfy than either one? Or is it just a cheaper alternative? I've noticed alot of people use the HD414 mod, and my 7 year old SR60's do need a new pad and like the bright yellow color!

414 pads sound similar to the flats and make SR60 bassier, less bright and more "in your face" (smaller soundstage).I myself am a flats/414 fan.TTVJ flats for 225 and 414 for my sr60.I like the funky/oldschool look SR60 has with the yellow pads

Yeah; and to be honest; that's part of the reason I keep the modded and reversed yeller 414s on my MS-1 also.

...plus they're easier to find if one of the kids lets them sit somewhere where they're not supposed to!

And I find them to be even more comfortable than the bowls on my MS2i, about equal to my HD600.

They sound nice reversed on my 325i.
Edit: Reversed is the part with the larger diameter goes on the inside closest to the driver. It helps if you have holes in both sides of the pads, though. Do a search on "quarter mod."

I use the reversed 414s. It's been so long since I've tried anything else that I've forgotten what stock sounds like...

I had fun fooling around with the senn 414 pads for a couple of days, trying them stock, quarter modded, reverse, etc. , but I ended up going back to stock (reversed) bowls. I felt the senn pads mucked up the relatively flat response of my SR80s too much, and made for a less accurate, less detailed, *woolier* sound.

Yes that was exactly my thoughts when I tried the senn pads on my rs1's yesterday. But on the sr60 I prefer the senns.

Thanks for the posts, they were very helpful! I was debating between the HD414 pad or the bowl pads to buy, but I think I'll go with the 414. By the way, any suggestions for a good place to order them?

With the reverse quarter mod how are you putting the pad back on the ear peice? The pic above looks as if the hole is bigger then the suggested "quarter".

you have to stretch the pad a little bit

Oh so I am just putting the ear piece around the hole I just made. Gotcha.
