I don't think playing a certain instrument helps as much as learning to read music well helps. Playing clarinet didn't help me start to play guitar hero, but once I learned to read the 5 colored lights as notes that my fingers could hit much like an instrument, I could then "read" the guitar hero fretboard with easily, and my fingers have yet to catch up, trust me.
