So the right channel of my HD-555s stopped making noise when plugged into any source. Left channel sounds fine.
 
There's no visible damage that I can see so I assume it's probably a shorted or frayed connection somewhere.
 
I have a multimeter but I'm not sure how the different bands on the end of the 1/4" plug match up to the different channels. How can I diagnose whether the problem is within the cable itself or within the right can?

left=white
right=red, and ground = some other color (Blue & Black)
