Ok, so recently my DT 990s packed up (under warranty, so I got a full refund) and I am now looking for a replacement.

I will be using these for everything, gaming, movies and listening to music.

Here are all of the headphones I’ve ever tested and my thoughts:

DT 990s (250ohm) - My daily driver for the last year, great detail and incredible soundstage. The only problem was the treble which benefitted from EQ.

DT 880s (250ohm) - Very good, unfortunately not as detailed as the 990s but they didn’t suffer from the massive treble spike, the soundstage was also narrower.

HD 560s - Very clinical, I found them incredibly neutral but a bit boring to listen to.

I’ve recently gotten my hands on some HD 599s and am currently testing them, I’m also waiting on the TYGR 300rs for testing alongside them. The 599s are £90 and the TYGRs are £120, essentially what I’m wondering is what you guys would suggest, what would you do in my situation? Ideally I’d like to spend as little as possible while getting as much for my money as I can.

Thanks for the help lads.

Not familiar with the TYGR 300R, but have had the Sennheiser HD598/599 for many years until just recently. Are you looking for bang-for-buck short-term, or long term? If you plan to keep your headphones for many years, most of the parts of the 599 are replaceable, and can use a custom cable or will benefit from an headphone amp (not required but had good experiences with Schiit Magni 2 so something like a JDS Atom) if you wanted to go that route. You’ll spend more but also get more IMO. The 599 at the $100USD price point is pretty ideal, at normal MSRP they’re not really worth it.

I'm looking for a comparison between the two really, or even between the 599 and the dt990 pros. The 599s are £90 which is about $120, so a little over the $100 price point. The £120 TYGRs being around $160. I'm really quite stuck lol.

The Tygr is a lot like the dt880 black, same profile as the Amiron home without the Tesla coil, but about the same power to drive. I prefer the Shp9500 over the hd598 or 599 (little more bass on the 599).
I currently have several, but the Hifiman 400i 2016 with equalization is great for music, but games are middle of the road. The DT880 black is my favorite all around with the extra bass over the stock 880. Sometimes on eBay you can get a nice used MMX300 Beyerdynamic, had one for several years, but better with the silver dt770 pads.
