. currently i have cash for dx1000 or woo6+princess sofia+pdps or ofcourse woo3.what do you guys think?i read alot of reviews that the hd650 when properly amped can be one of the best in the world and they truly are magnificent for me.i am not interested in SS amp,i want to try tube amps and know their sound.i also am intigrated by the dx1000 and all the good reviews on them,so what do you guys think, should i stick with the hd650 and get woo3 or 6 or get a different flavour headphone?any help will always be appreciated.

I can assure you the "new" HD650's with the WA 6SE Maxed with the SP is very difficult to beat!

Though, I haven't tried the DX1000's... for my money... I'd get the "new" HD650's with WA 6 Maxed with the SP. There's just no risk with this combo. A very balanced, refined, yet dynamic, aggressive sound in all respects.

thx for the respnses guys.i think i'll get the woo6 with SP,i just thought from all the reviews i read that hd650+woo3 is a great combo and i was wondering if the woo6 worth the extra cost.Gradofan2,i have the hd650 the new version and i like it very much with the micro amp but the problem is that the hd650 is a warm phone and the micro is also warm so i was looking for a diff. sound sig.

I own both the HD650s and the DX1000s, as well as a rebuilt Singlepower Extreme with NOS tubes and a Blue Circle Hat Peed Thingee (solid state).

The DX1000s pair best with a decent tube amp but are more hit-or-miss with solid state amps. (I think that's how they got their reputation among some for having a colored or "honky" midrange, which I don't hear with my Singlepower.) The HD650s sound good to me out of any decent non-portable headphone amp. So I think you made the right decision, as the DX1000s might not sound all that great out of your current amp.

That said, the DX1000s sound much better to me in all respects than my HD650s when either is properly amped. To me, the DX1000s just do everything better than the HD650s, including bass definition, extension, soundstage, and comfort. They also have the added advantage of isolation. So if funds are available, you should definitely give the DX1000s a whirl with your Woo amp. Buy from computeruniverse in Germany for around $650, which is where I got my second pair. If you don't like them, you can probably sell them for close to what you paid for them, as they seldom come up for sale used (which should tell you something.)

I find it difficult to switch from DX1000 back to HD650 during a listening session. I often start with 325i or HD 650. I use a Woo 3 and also have a Micro Amp. My HD650 is an older model that has front and rear foam mod, even so, they sound less revealing when comparing to DX1000...they are quite a bit different from HD 650 and are superior IMO.

I can offer that the 650 with Woo 3 pleases me very much. I find the combination non-fatiguing and can listen for several hours with great pleasure. Warm and detailed, I'd say.

I agree with you that the Micro Amp adds a touch of warmth.(mine is a 2006 w/Desktop Module). When I had a 2003 DT-880, the Micro Amp using crossfeed was an excellent pairing due to the added bass. As many people have expressed, the HD 650 pairs nicely with Woo amps. I bought my W3 to pair with the DT-880(sold). The beauty of the DX1000 is there with my Micro Amp but I hear the improvement that the W3 offers. I actually preferred the Gilmore Lite(sold) with HD650. Between the W3 & GLite, I preffered the W3 with DX1000.

Even though the DX1000 can do big time bass, it is never "bassy" unless called for. The HD 650 tends to come off as being more bass skewed, sort of "tubby" along with the obvious warmer mids(compared to DX1000). When it comes to insane low bass with Electronic music, the DX1000 delivers every bit and easily beats HD 650.

For this reply I used "Aqa Jan" by Renaud Garcia-Fons from his Entremundo release(one of my favorite tracks for serious comparisons). The HD 650 sounds very good...until I switch to DX1000 and hear finer detail without the overly warm flavor.

The DX1000 is not without faults and it really depends on your personal preference. I love the big sound stage with DX1000, simply more speaker-like and satisfying.

I used lossless files in iTunes>AirPort Express> V-DAC>Woo3.

The WA6, or the Millett Minimax, are not overly warm, syrupy amps - they're both more neutral. They clear up the "new" Senns quite well... almost to the Grado, ATH, Denon level of detail and clarity.

Great thanks for the replies again.one last question, will the hd650 changes to a bright phone when paired with any woo amps?I am very sensitive to harsh treble and that's why I sold the highly fatiguing k701.

I changed my mind again

.no but seriously because of the customs and duties my country charges for heavy packages.I have a headfier who will sell me his dx1000.and I will make the hd650+micro amp my bedside rig because it is very open and relaxed sounding combo and will make the dx1000 my desktop rig.now which is the best amp for dx1000?I read alot of reviews that they sound their best with tubes.the budget for the amp is no more than $400-500.
