Hey all!

I have an Atrium on order with ZMF and I'm about to receive a Verite from trades. I have a DT1990 right now. I have wanted an HD660S for a long time though, for some reason I just want a HD6X0 headphone. In my mind having two high end zmf headphones and two easy to use every day headphones would be a nice collection.

Adorama seems to have the 660s for $300, which seems like a solid deal. Should I scoop it up or will it be useless once I have a Verite and Atrium? Or should I get something different like an HD6XX?

I've not heard the 660 or Atrium. But I own the 650 and Verite Open, and have owned the 6XX and 1990.

Those all sound different enough that they're worth owning, in my opinion (with proper amplification).

HD 660S is nothing like the HD 600 series. King of the HD 600 series is the original.

How is the 660s compared to 6xx? Cause I do want a 6 series, but I always hear 660s is more resolving with better imaging, so I wanted to try it.

An obvious case of the sequel(s) not living up to the original…..👍❓👎❗

You may think of HD6X0 as ‘easy to use every day’ (convenient) headphones, but the HD600 will startle you with its musical naturalness. This supreme quality truly makes the HD600 easy to use because it takes you where the music goes! PS, HD600 and Atrium are complementary…I enjoy going back and forth with them.

Interesting! So would you say HD600 is the best choice between 600, 6xx, or 660s?

For me the HD600 is the best in the series. If you prize convincing musicality, naturalness, it may be for you the best in the series.

Kinda nutty that the HD660S being the new dog doesn't hang. I always hear 600 is literally the "neutral" headphone, 650/6xx is a warmer version of 600, and 660s has the best resolution and imaging, but the worst tuning.

If this is true, wouldn't an EQd 660s be the best? Or can you not get there with the eq?

I do not EQ so I cannot answer that 🤷🏻‍♂️.

What's wrong with the tuning of the 660S? I'll be honest, I haven't heard the others in the series, but I can't tell you how much I love that the 660S just sounds amazing with every genre I throw at it.

That's great to hear! I've just read it's tuned worse than the other two, but the capability of the 660s is better 🤷‍♂️. I'm not sure though, haven't owned one, but debating if I should.

I have the 660S as well as the Atrium (not to mention a few others  ). My 660's are my "travel" headphones - they're light, relatively compact, and easy to power with my iFi Gryphon when I'm in a hotel room on business. When fed properly, they sound very good. Having said that, I have not compared them to the 6xx's or 600's, so I can't say how they stack up. I got my 660's OB from Amazon for under $300, but not by much. If those are NIB, I'd say go for it. Adorama does have a 30 day return policy, so worst case, you can send them back.

Yeah adorama did have a NIB for $300, but not sure if they still do. I am very tempted!
