HE Audio EH to HE Audio JADE
Company: HE Audio
Owner: Mr. He
Supplier/Middleman/Contributor/Engineer: Dr. Fang Bian
2007 - EH 1.1
prototype (Electrostatic Ear-Speaker/Headphone)
2008 - EH 1.2
Praised for its sound signature and unique and natural sounding. Almost a liquid-smooth relaxing sound that does almost everything right. This version had the best sound next to the JADE.
The EH 1.2 started the rise of the JADE to be. Right away the design was highly criticized for it is too close of a look-a-like to the HE90. Because of this HE Audio decided to change the appearances of the EH 1.2. This model had a darkish tarnish wood look. And silver attached cables. Craftsmanship is suspected!
2008 - EH 1.3 ($999.99)
This version was created because of the last edition resembles much like the HE90. This model sported an all-wood design. There's was 2 different wood colors for this edition. One light brown woody look and the other slightly darker brown woody look. This edition had blue attached cables.
The appearances of the headphone were one of the most unique looking ever created. And it didn't win a lot of favors with enthusiasts. Because of this people demanded the EH 1.2 look again. The sound was slightly different and had a sound that was more pleasing to others and hated by the rest. This headphone also had the most problems. Problems that it was falling apart. and being too fragile. Most audiophiles prefer the EH 1.2. Due to its unique look, this edition is considered a rare gem and a great Headphone to own for collectors. Craftsmanship is highly suspected!
2008-9 - EH 1.2B
Due to popular demand the original design return with better construction and brought back the original sounds with tweaks. This had a Black color look hence the 'B' in front of the title. This was the better edition overall to own. This solved a few issues that other pairs had. From sound to construction. It still wasn't perfect. To identify this version, the easiest way is to look at the front cups are where the grills are showed and look at the outer circle around the grill to see the color. If it is a light white/brown looking than it is the newer version "B". The Original EH 1.2 outer ring is dark brown. Also to note some consider EH 1.2 sounds a tad better.
The final version. (Craftsmanship is suspected again !)
HE Audio JADE ($1500.00)
Everything supposedly fixed. From the fragile constructions to the awful looks and strange sound signatures that some pairs had. It also had a better cable and earpads. The cables are black attached cables. The sound is where these pairs shine. From sounding close to an HE90 to being a totally different beast altogether. The latter is where this headphone should be the judge on. The sound signature has a balanced, smooth, buttery, refine natural flow to it. Somewhat a better pleasing HD800. That some consider addicting.
This should be called the 'JADE' and has its own soul that shines on. The sound that the JADE produces is considered by some of the greatest sounding electrostatic ear-speaker created.
When it was announced the asking price was $1500.00usd.
The JADE is believed to have two revisions. And only lasted about 3 years in total including the EH series. From its inception as a prototype to the final retail product, the JADE is a mysterious beast that disappears without a trace.
The number of units # Unknown ( altogether Including the EH to the Jade estimation less than 100? Making this headphone one of the rarest mystical, mythical legend created)
2009-2011 and 2012 fully discontinued.
Legends have it that the total number of units for only the HE Audio JADE itself is about 25 or less !!
Needed and was supply with STAX 5 pin adapter plug to be used with STAX amplifiers.
Each revision used real wood material and real leather ear-pads.
The HE Audio EH/JADE came with its own Amp. (Separately)
HE Audio EH/JADE AMP: There are three stages with this special amp. All stages are fully balanced and it is a tube amp.
Stage 1: 12au7 as first-stage gain
Stage 2: 12at7 as a push-pull
Stage 3: 12bh7 This is to drive the JADES
The amp had a balance and single-end input. It also had a STAX 5 pin output. This is a 580v pro bias Amp. And it can be used to drive Pro-Bias STAXS Ear-Speakers.
Introducing the JADE:
The top picture is the final retail version. And the bottom versions are the EH 1.2 and 1.3 version
The ones on the bottom are 3 EH models
2 EH 1.3 edition (Blue attached cables)
and
1 EH 1.2 edition (Silver attached cables)
To tell them apart is that EH 1.3 is the full wood design concept and the EH 1.2 looks almost like the HE90. And also the cable colours.
The 2 woody versions have slight color differences to them
EH 1.2B (BLACK)
Jade wires and adapters
Jade wire ended in a 5 pin XLR connected to a handmade Stax adapter
The Jade wire is braided from end to end .
He Audio Jade Sound:
It has the typical Hifiman sound. The sound is warm and balance. Deep extension. Recess treble. There is detail but is subdue overall. The headphone is overall more musical and euphoric than anything. The headphone can be compare to a He6 and He1000 sound style.
He Audio Jade Design: The good, the bad and the ugly. It had too many revisions and because of this people couldn't trust it. It was breaking apart most likely the EH 1.2 to 1.3 versions. Cheap glue. flaky pads. The retail versions had nice comfy earpads. The earlier versions had one time velour earpads. The design is a mix bags of everythings!
legendary Jade retire 3 years after its inception.
Some consider the Jade the greatest electrostatic headphone ever created. Others say the complete opposite. The opposite could be because it had many revisions and few retail versions also had flaws.
There were only a few amounts created. And the majority had problems, but the ones that didn't you will most likely never hear. And if you ever come across a perfect condition version. You most likely have the greatest headphone ever created.
