Okay so I'm looking for some new headphones;
They have to be closed over my ears.
Price under $250
Able to drive sound from an iPhone
Stay on my head (I'll be working out with these on)
Durable.

The types of music I listen to is Trance and Hip Hop. I listen to all other types of accoustic, but my ear for accoustics music isn't as good as it is for trance and Hip Hop. For example I can pickout a large difference in 320 kbps to 256 with trance and hip hop, but if it's accoustics I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Appreciate your help, thanks.

Also I'd prefer ones that didn't throw in unnecessary bass a.k.a Beats :p

From what I've read the following phones have been suggested;
HFI-580's
Denon d2000's - A little out of my price range, but if it's REALLY worth it I'd do it
M50's
shure SRH840

So here's my main concern; Can these drive an iPhone? If not, would a portable amp that fits in my pocket be possible or even realistic and work?

I'd like to stay in range of 250 bucks, but if I can't get sound that's sastisfactory, do I have to get a completely different mp3 player altogether? That would be a pain.

Shure SRH840, SRH940, JVC MX10, DT1350, P50 and B&W P5.

M50 might be the only headphone that would not only clamp hard but it will more or less survive a 300pound
weight being dropped on it.

Just keep in mind though you will have issues keeping it it on your head if you lean back.

CALs (Creative Aurvana Live), great price on Amazon.
I really liked my CALs, until I stepped on them.

They are definitely worth it and you should be able to find them for less than $250.

How bad of an issue? This is a concern if I'm benching, or even lying back in my computer chair.

Where at? Do you have a pair? Can they drive an iPhone well without an amp?

I got mine from Buy.com, you can also check amazon and J&R.

The Denons are low impedance so they can be used without a amp but I like them much better with at least a portable but you have that option.
