The you're really going to love this: my GF insisted that I buy the Sennheiser HD-800S's when they were offered for 48 months, no interest at Sweewater. Every day I heard "I really don't understand why you haven't bought them yet. I mean, we spend more on that on pizza every month."

Oh, and I thought she wouldn't give me the 400i's back. She just sat there listening to Fleewood Mac with a big smile on her face. Ditto with the Meze Classic 99's, although she likes the 400i's better overall.

:D

Yah, you're on my **** list now also. Does she have a sister living in Canada by chance?

Nope. Canton, Ohio...

Thanks for the reply! That's quite an interesting EQ, don't you find the highs too sharp?

I don't and I wish because I would have been happier with my setup with EQ. I have difficulty hearing highs and micro details and therefore always search for a phone with such attributes. The 400I for me gives me that only with such EQ setting.
I tried the Beyer line of DT990, T90, T1 2nd gen, T5 2gen, and all except the T5 had recessed mids and equalizing them didn't satisfy me to do that much money on them.
The T5 sounded good but not $1100 good.

Or this: https://www.oppodigital.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DHC18

I still haven't bought it myself after mentioning it a long time ago.
Any impressions on the build quality? Particularly about the 3.5mm plug, it looks fragile.

I have used this cable when trying out the PM-2 on tour and would say it is worth the $19, but is not great quality, just not poor quality.

I do have the previously mentioned cable and its connectors look strange, but it works well. I've also used the HD-700 ¼" cable with it and it is a good fit and nice quality.

See if someone will build you a cable out of Mogami or something. I'd hit up the Cable Gallery thread and see what they would charge you to build one if you don't want to build one for yourself.

Which pad is the most comfortable?

Most comfortable that I have tried are Shure SRH-1840 pads, I tried the spare set that comes with the SRH-1840 after another poster mentioned that the SRH-1540 pads also fit.  Its a little tight but it fits.
How those pads alter the sound?

I haven't tried Brainwavz pads, only the Focus, Focus-A, Velour, Pleather and SRH-1840 pads
After trying all the pads with my HE-400/400i/560 ended up with original Focus on 400i and 560, Focus-A for HE-400
I am looking for a 3 meter (10ft) cable under $70. What would you recommend? They one recommended above is 2m max.

Try contacting PETEREK, he should be able to make a simple cable using Canare or Mogami cable for less than $70,  I could build it but I don't have any 2.5mm plugs available so it will take a while and it would cost about $62 just for parts.  Below is what I've been building:

Above is 10ft Canare cable for HD-6XX, double helix carbon fiber splitter and 3.5mm, cardas HD-6xx pins

9 ft Mogami cable, 3.5 w/ 6.3 screw on plug, carbon fiber splitter, no headphone side terminators yet
