At the moment it is raining here😕😕
Lol. Murphy, right? As far as latest version goes, the pads seem to have been the real ‘changek, and afaict, it’s a visual ID. Go bk through this forum and there are photos. I have the older version simply because I got mine during the pre-covid “tour”, where .hifiMan sent a pair from user to user, and let people try the with their own gear. At the time, I had the HE-4xx (with the 2.5mm connectors), and there was a world of difference. I’m just really happy with them as my open-back cans.

Yes, a low shelf, that one you should adjust to your liking. Some people add around +5db there but for me +2db is rocking my brains out lol.
Is this correct or not?

That looks right to me. You can now use the expand and compress buttons to adjust the EQ, "expand" if the difference is too small compared to the headphone's default tuning. Anyways, I hope it sounds right to you too!

The thing is that I've seen way too many different measurements of Sundara 2020 to know exactly how they're supposed to sound, but for me they're awfully close to the idea of neutral. The bass on my pair is especially strong compared to what oratory1990's EQ recommends as low-shelf - 5db at 105hz. I am currently using the Ifi Zen Can to drive them, which is not a particularly bass-heavy dac/amp, so who knows.

For those who feel cables affects sound, what material/construction sound best with these? Silver coated, gold coated, pure OCC copper?
How many core - 4, 8 or 16? I would like balanced cables.
Some say the braid matters. What braid did you like? Let's disregard aesthetics.
Links are appreciated.

Did the sound improve? How?

Thanks

Im team "no sound quality difference", and i've tried SPC, occ litz copper, etc in 4/8 round braid and flat braid configurations, with IEMs. Im using a DIY OCC copper 4 strand round braid cable with the Sundaras and noticed no sound quality difference either.

If you want sleeved cables I would recommend checking:
-Hart cables
-Periapt cables

Braided:
-CEMA (electric acousti on aliexpress, they can do custom configurations: LINK)

I've performed a couple mods on my Sundara which DID alter the sound and tuned it to my preferences, and might alter the sound to the same qualities you are looking for:

I had the Ananda for a couple of months, I sold them because they lacked a little too much slam and dynamics and the comfort and fit for me wasn't the best with those huge pads.

I still liked Ananda's soundstage, imaging, clarity and detail.

Are Sundara technically much inferior? Has anyone had both for comparison?

I have them both.
You are going to get the warmth and slam you are seeking.
You loose a bit in imaging , precision , width and finer articulation.

I just received my Sundara. I haven't had them for more than an hour. I'm still trying to adjust to the comfort level. However while I was adjusting the headband size looking for a sweet spot. I noticed that as I adjust the headband the paint from the arm is being scrapped off! Hifiman needs to address this priority.
