Would be great to have AES/EBU connection too in a V2 version.
Great Suggestion!

Although it think in the Zen series shell it would be a tight squeeze, it seems plausible. Perhaps an I2s would be more appropriate for that series, size wise. AES/EBU connections to me were always pro grade, studio use in actual usage, with being able to carry signal over longer distances with no loss.

Asking as I do not know, has this connection gone above 24 or 32/192 Capability in todays world? Might have to break out the Schiit Modius to test, lol!!

Cheers!!

Happy to ask if we have an NAA update coming sometime soon for you!
Thank you for asking the question and... to share the answer  (which involves updating the OS).

Yesterday received a raspberry py 400 as a gift, installed roopie and volumio on it, and easily sends dsd512 to pro idsd, also had no problems to send dsd256 to a Denon amp dac, what I can not understand is why the zen stream can’t do more than dsd128 on the Denon, also tested volumio with the same results. This is a less than 100 dollar computer and passes all formats without a problem, why is the zen stream limiting the output formats to dsd128 or 256 in some dac’s.

Is the processor on the zen stream so poor that a cheap raspberry can outclass it easily on the data it passes trough to a dac?

Received Zen Stream.
1st thing noticed, it's a bit warm to touch during it's operation. Is it normal?

2nd thing - Unit came with a firmware dated on Aug 2021. After the recent update the UI ain't quick as was the old I felt. And streaming led is now yellow for 44.1 khz as opposed to green (which I liked) in the earlier firmware.

3rd - I am using coax with a high quality RCA interconnect (not 75ohm thing). But it works fantastic. So I should be ok or 75ohm cable mandatory ?

Lastly any good news about the Chromecast thing ?

Cheers 🥂

Welcome!!

Yes the ZS does get warm nothing to worry about.

Firmware can be run back to the original that it came with, if that was functional for you and you'd like to go back to it you can do a factory reset using the method in the first post of this thread, https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ifi-zen-stream-setup-tips-tricks.961425/

The new colors are what they are after changes awhile back, you can of course just turn the LED's off on the front by pressing the right button once (normal Click Press) **Do not hold** This is what I did as I am not a fan of the yellow either, lol

I have used quite a few different Coax cables, never had a problem with any of them, and I do not know of any Requirements for 75ohm.

Cheers!!

Thanks @BubbaHyde for the response.

That's interesting that firmware deafults back to the original after reset. Might come in handy in future.

Yes I have done the samething and it's amazing that even on the next boot Zen remember's to turn of the LED's.

Okay great. Saved some pennies 👍

Is interesting to see that many on the Roon forum also are asking for a „Stream Pro“ version. Think there is a great potential with even better hardware components and further software tweaking to compete also against Lumin & Co.
As a Roon/ZS user although I do hope a newer version is in the works, I honestly cannot see where this discussion of hardware shortfalls comes from! This combo, as is sounds fantastic and has already had reviews say it's already on par with those higher end steamer ( sound quality wise).

I guess I have great trouble seeing the need for all these super hi Rez up conversion enthusiasts, I fully confess I am not one, and have never heard any Benefit to upsampling too 1.21 jiggawatts, but as always to those that do...

Cheers!!🍺

Have a Brew it's way too hot!!
