I realized that I love the sound of my W1000 over any of my other headphones. I just love the way they do vocals. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the headphones I mentioned and could enlighten me on how they sound.

I am incredibly picky about natural sounding vocals that is full yet crisp. The W1000 does this, however, the highs are a bit disconnected. The highs seem to peak and roll off in random areas making cymbals sound very unnatural. But the vocals are so good that I tolerate the imperfection. Are there headphones that fixes the problem?  I heard the W5000s are bright. Does that mean worse mids than the W1000? I have an idea that it has and AKG K701 sound. That's not what I want if that is true.   I heard W1000x have strong bass, rivaling Denon D7000. That is also not what I want if that is true.

Please enlighten me!

The W1000 and W5000 sound quite a bit different to my ears. I wouldn't say the mids on the W5000 are bad, I like them quite a bit actually (and thought voices sound good, women especially). They are kinda bright sounding, but I think that's a two part situation, due to the low bass quantity and the fact that, at least for me, the W5000 makes you notice the highs more (the highs are a strength). The W5000 problems can be remedied but its going to take modding (especially the fit), proper amp matching, or EQ. That sounds bad, but I liked them so much that it was worth it for me, and I never could get the W1000 to sound in a way that was really appealing to me, so I'd say its actually less finnicky in that respect than the W1000.

Oh, and on the mids, the W1000 actually sounded congested to me compared the W5000 (but it excels at that, so its not surprising).

To me, I liked the W5000 better in pretty much every way, but I think they sound quite a bit different (some people actually think they sound very similar, enough so that they didn't think the W5000 was worth the extra money over the W1000).

I haven't heard the W1000X, but from what I've read, they seem like they have a much less quirky sound than the W1000, and are probably a bit more balanced than the W5000.

Bump!!

I also have a W1000, which I love, and am also contemplating a W5000 vs W1000X question.

Actually, in the time between i posted and now, I've tried both the W5000 and the W1000X.

But they were short. I owned the W5000 about a week and they were not "exciting" enough for me. I only tested the W1000X for about half hour in a shop. Nowhere near the time needed to get used to the sound, but I did it anyways to get an idea of the sound.

I actually preferred the sound of the W1000 over the W5000. It could have to do with the tube amp that I found synergized with my W1000. The W5000 also was a terrible fit. It may have definitely been the reason for the lack of low end that I heard. Thw W5000 was just fitted way too big.

The W1000X, on the other hand, sounded good to me right away. The vocals were a bit laid back in comparison to W1000, but overall better than the Denon D7000. It was definitely not as bright as the W1000, the bass was tight and plenty. The Denon has slightly louder subbass, but the W1000X had more forward mids.
