Hi all,

Here’s another exciting launch we’d like to share with the community. The VMV P2 High-Resolution Desktop Headphone Amp takes your sonic connection a step further with even more to offer. This amplifier comes with a robust 12W output per channel, and its user-friendly design features dual headphone outputs and an easily accessible front-panel volume control. Furthermore, the built-in high and low gain settings make it adaptable to various headphone models and impedance levels.

Just remember - just because it's new doesn't mean it's better.

Pretty sure they meant 12w output, not 2w (web page say 12w per channel into 16 Ohms). Look very nice, though I have to say that it's strange that they put the gain setting switch on the back panel.
Hi there,

Thank you for catching the typo. We have fixed the post to avoid confusion.

I’m surprised no one pointed out to the 99 Op Amps packed inside this small Box. Well done guys, even the internal design looks beautiful. Curious on how it sounds, It has been 5-7 yeas I don’t hear any SMSL. :frowning2:

Zeos has got a video out on it now. He manages to talk about everything except the sound.

I have The VMV P2/ D2R stack and they are very good. Audio Science review measured them and found the amp to be technically superb and is a powerhouse.

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...s/hifiman-ananda-nano-headphone-review.53534/

I compared the internal amp in the Burson Conductor Reference SE to the RCA input of the P2 with the Burson set to DAC mode output, and found the VMV amp to be wider and more balanced in frequency response compared to the slightly leaner sounding Burson although the difference is very slight. The P2 has a fuller sound. The instruments' are bigger in the stage with less space between them and very organic, Splashy cymbals are tamed but detail retrieval still reveals all of the reverb decay all the way to the wide edges. The Burson sounds emptier with more separation and slightly deeper but not as wide and can get aggressive. So I do like the VMV P2 despite its quirks of limited controls via flush mounted dip switches on the back and the analog volume control with no level display which makes it more difficult to match levels as a reviewer's tool. It seems to be ridiculously powerful if you have Susvaras, Tungstens, or other demanding headphones. Medium gain measures still very clean but I have a slight preference in sound quality for the low gain setting which only tops out of volume control with a single ended input which gives away 6db from the balanced XLR. Using the SE RCA in with the SE 6.35mm TRS headphone out drops another 6db which will require flicking the switch up to medium gain, showing that this is a true balanced design from input to output. But seems to measure better via the SE output for some reason although I have yet to try to make this comparison with the 4 pin XLR out which have been usually using.

The metalwork and heft of the VMV units is impressive with a very classy if simple style. Anyone looking for immense power or a slightly more organic sound to tame aggressive headphones like the Ananda Nano should consider this amp.

So I tried it and can say that the 4 pin XLR sounds better than the 6.35mm single ended despite measuring very slightly worse. I have to use a 10cm adapter cable of unknown quality to use my best solid silver cables so this may have something to do with it, but the Balanced is more open with better fine detail. I'll have to ask my cable builder if they can make me an adapter cable out of the same 16 cores Silver wire to find if that is the big difference.
