Hello everyone!

I have a Samsung Infuse with a Wolfson chip. I was wondering if it would be possible to connect my phone via usb to my laptop so that the signal is sent from my laptop to the phone's chip and outputted analog via my phone? I have a Thinkpad laptop, so it would be nice to use my phone as a DAC.

Thank you!

I don't think so. Better off getting an external DAC.

I think you would have better luck getting a Fiio E10 USB/DAC/Amp.

Not that I'm aware of, sadly (and I'm much more knowledgeable about Android than I am audio).

Thing is, even if you stream to your phone, you're still using the phone's headphone amp circuitry. There's no line out.

I read about Android not allowing access to the audio portion/chip or something and that it's supposedly in the works or being requested to allow DACs to be used via the android usb slot. Info here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24614

That's a letdown.  I saw this thread and got all sorts of good ideas about having a portable DAC

Android 5.0 finally got USB Audio support. However, I can't figure out how to make it work with a computer at the moment. Maybe someone has a solution?

In the meanwhile, I found this solution and it works great: http://georgielabs.net/

There is latency, but I use it mostly for music so I don't care. If you use VLC to watch movies or shows, then you can adjust the timing to match up.
