I have some K501's and just returned some 770/80s (too much bass for even a bass head). The 501's are great for Jazz, but that's about it for my genres. Which include everything except classical. I think buying the 501's as a first headphone was a bad choice because I am not sure if there are too many headphones, from reading, that can touch the 501's clarity and realism below $300.
I grabbed the 580s just because there is so much hype around them, not sure if they can actually live up to it being that my 501's nail Mids and Highs, but we will see. The increased bass will be nice to hear with the 580's. I t may have been redundant to get the 580's since it seems as though the 990 should be a better can.
Then I grabbed the 990's hoping they will cover all my other genres and maybe even Jazz. But again, the 501's may have spoiled me.
I really want to be a 1 or 2 headphone person, but with so many to try and no meets coming to my area, I just have to buy and return until i find the ones I like.....
Any thoughts?
