btw, you can surely improve a bit on photographing. focusing is a problem in some of your photos...

Lol, yea i was trying to take low-light photos without using a tripod.

As for tracks, i used various soundtracks to test the sound. I have an "audition" folder full of various tracks on my computer to test the different character of the sound spectrum. There is a track for drums and impact, Eric Clapton for details and accuracy, Dire Straits for overall soundstage etc. Of my testing, the one that impressed me the most was the Pink Floyd soundtrack. You gotta hear it to believe it.

I've no idea how the IV/SE will sound comparing to the MKIII as i haven't tried that amp. But from what i know, the IV/SE should sound superior to the III due to the fact that much more superior tubes are utilized (military specs, gold pins). Also, the RCA inputs/outputs connectors are much better. I'd choose the special edition series if i had the money, but then i was looking for a good budget amp at a bargain price.

I just changed my order from MKIII to MKIV to avoid that nagging feeling, if only....

I'm not sure of the shipping date (just found out it's shipping the middle of next week) but I do know I'll be one of the first to get one (so I can help them work out all the kludges) and it's not like it's my only amp. Where's Dr. Zin when I need him!?

I have some questions: just how hot does a tube amplifier like the Little Dot MKIII get? For example, is it okay to put this on top of other components like a DAC without fear of damaging the lower unit?

Unlike a solid state, I would have to turn this off when not in use, right? How long do tubes last?

I will be upgrading my amp at the end of the year and right now it's up between this little dot and the original master solid-state amp.

MK IV's dimension is larger than MK III. PCB design and tube also different.
I have heard neither of them. But MK III is the value for money version of MK IV, while the flagship is certainly MK IV.

I have received my mkIII and had it switched it on for the whole weekend. I woldn't worry about the heat at all. Certainly not below. The chassis iself gets warm but never too hot to touch or uncomfortable. As in any similar product the tubes themselves get very hot but this is not transferred to the main body. Tubes use a lot of electricty. That's probably the main reason to turn them off.

My main tube amp, I bought second hand. I've had it for about three years with the original tubes. Recently I have started to hear a funny sound once in a while. So maybe they are reaching the end of their life. That would make it somewhere between 3 and four years of frequent use. Not bad.

Be careful of unauthorized sellers, I have seen a few. Why not just buy from David on Ebay who is known to offer good service and good price?
