I’m delighted you like them! Do listen to others here too - we all have our preferences and biases. For example, I like a warm thick musical sound, but others prefer more details and technicalities.@Echalon Just coming back to your advice, which I've found very helpful thanks. I've been using the PurpleSE on my Zero Red (with the stock tips) and I'm much happier with them now. Just a bit nicer to listen to and I'm spending more time enjoying these IEMS. With the EW200, the Blackcat is also an improvement and I'm been trying some KBear 07 tips on them which have been good too.
So I'm now looking at the next cable/tip upgrades as I can't justify the expense of some EA500LM's as yet (and I'm happier with the IEMs I have now).
For the Zero Red's I'm thinking of taking your advice and ordering a Penon OS133 cable.
For the EW200's I've ordered a pair of Spinfit W1 tips (which arrive tomorrow) which @Click recommended in the post below. I'm also considering the Penon CS819 cable for the EW200 but that would have to wait another month (from a budgeting point of view).
Any other suggestions appreciated! Especially for cables/tips that might get the best out of the EW200s - that are up to £40. I'm wondering about the Penon PAC480 as well - partly due to it's "special" price. Many thanks
You might want to keep using the PurpleSE until you have tried more eartips. Tips are the interface between IEM and your ear, and it takes a while to find what works best for you. Once you know how the IEM sounds with a really good seal, you’ll have a better idea what you might want from a cable. And there is nothing wrong with a cheaper cable if you are satisfied with the sound.
If you need more suggestions of cheap, popular eartips to try, I’m sure lots of us would be happy to give suggestions.
To my ears, the OS133 is an upgrade to the PurpleSE. Slightly better in most ways, but like the PurpleSE it mostly leaves the IEM’s tonality unchanged. Whether it’s worth the cost is up to you.
The PAC480 (“Penon Audio Custom 480 cores) is a lovely cable if you want a thicker sound. The price is not discounted, it has said that for a very long time. The negatives are that it is heavier and stiffer than many cables, and there are more detailed cables. It’s one of my favourites, but you’ll have to decide whether it sounds right for you.
I’m less keen on the CS819. It is light and comfortable but far too bright sounding for my taste. Again, that brightness might be a positive thing for some people.
I don’t have the E200 but would be happy to advise if you describe the sound changes you want (if any).
