So I bought a Macbook today, after using PCs for the last 10 years. So far I like it a lot, but since I am a complete Mac newb, I need some suggestions for a multimedia software.

Basically what I am looking for are two things. First, a program similar to Exact Audio Copy that will let me make 1 to 1 copies of CDs into FLAC files. And two, a program similar to Foobar that manages FLACs, can convert them to LAME, and burn them to CDs.

Max is an excellent ripper/transcoder.

LiquidCD is a very nice disc burning app.

As a bonus recommendation, Quicksilver MAKES my os x experience. It's hugely useful, even if all you use it for is launching apps. (It does much, much more.)

Thanks for starting the post Humanflyz! I just ordered a Macbook last night and was interested in the same type of programs...

Definitely try Play... it doesn't get a lot of talk and it has a generic name so it's harder to find, but it's basically the same type of thing as Foobar (though still an early version).

Very pleased with Max. Still use EAC on my PC for damaged disks (to help friends mainly as even my 'Brothers in Arms' CD from 1985 is virtually pristine).

Still playing with Play, Cog and Toolplayer to find prefered player.

Certainly some great apps available for OSX.

^ I'll look into Toolplayer.
Might be handy for those times I just want to play a single song.

So far I like play, but I wish it had some kind of interface with online music databases so I can retrieve meta-data automatically instead of having to input it manually
