A friend of mine tried my HD650 and he liked it very much
Budget is $300
His usage is movies and tv shows only
 
If amp or dac is needed then its ok but the whole budget should not exceed 300-350

Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm + Fiio E12. The slight bass boost works really well for movies, I think, and the comfort is superb.

I use an older pair of HD555's for late night movie watching. I plug em directly into my reciever and use the "headphone" surround mode. They work fantastic for this.... and they can be had pretty cheap.

I now use the D7000 for movies, however before I acquired the Denons I was using the JVC HARX700.
 
They did a better job than the DT880 and HD600 which are considerably more expensive and harder to power, neither gave me that cinematic experience.
 
The Ultrasone HFI-780 was also good, great movie bass but zero comfort.

Just for movies and television, I'd go with the Bose AE2. They have satisfying low-end kick, provide isolation, and are very comfortable. They also have a relatively laid-back sound, which lends itself to multimedia content imho. No esoteric equipment required.
