Wasn't it a change of the dampening material?  Could have sworn the original was felt and the new is foam?

There certainly has been a change from felt to foam(?) also. It seems people cannot agree that's al there is.

My impression is new dampening + extra QCed drivers.

Dampening materials, felt on the left...

Remember, there are different reports. The unveiled LCD-3 rev. 1 vs. RMA reports are more subtle and might be due to dampening. Also, the foam vs felt dampening properties are based on assumptions. We do not know what is behind the foam. Further, very few users have compared their pre- and post RMA pairs side by side :)

As I've mentioned a few times, going from denser felt to light foam (if it is in fact light foam) couldn't account for the differences people are hearing ime.  That alone would take them in the opposite direction.  Something else must have changed that made it so they didn't need as much damping because the driver is now performing better on it's own.  It seems like more diaphragm tension is a good guess, but it's hard to say.

LOL - I saw your signature link picture. We agree upon treble peaks, at least :)

Thanks. It is quite easy when things are photogenic. :)

At first, the zebra wood wasn't doing much for me, but now I think the rosewood of the LCD2s even looks cheap. IMHO of course.
