Hey everyone, so I had a quick question. I am purchasing the v moda m100's and was wondering if you all thought it would be smart to buy a headphone amp for it. I also don't really understand the difference between an amp and a dac, so if someone could explain that that would be great also.
Thanks, Jake
P.S. it will be powered by a Samsung Galaxy S III

I haven't heard the m100's but from what I've read they will be fine without an amp but will benefit from one. I use the Fiio e11 and it is a great, budget friendly amp. You can find them for around $60 USD.

As for the difference between an amp and a DAC- a DAC is a Digital to Analog Converter and it's duty is to convert the digital audio signal into an analog one. Simple enough.  An amp then takes that signal and amplifies it. There are quite a few DACs that have amps built into them.

edit: Just dug up a little on the GSIII- you can use a portable USB DAC with it so forget the Fiio e11, grab the e7 instead. It's a USB DAC with an amp built into it. Same $60.
