I just sold my E17 as I was very underwhelmed with the amp's power. Is there a way to bypass the note 3's DAC? If so, I'd love to find a portable DAC/AMP (maybe an iBasso?) well under $200, willing to buy used. To power my HE-300's, my Image One's and sometime in the future, V-Moda M-100's.

Any suggestions?

Just over your budget but the JDS Labs C5D ($250) is supposed to work with the newer Android that is UAC1 compliant. I think the Note 3 is.

And if you can give FiiO a second chance, the Kunlun is also supposed to do the same and $100 less than the C5D.

That looks like a nice product but my E17 was very underwhelming. It struggled to drive 80Ω beyers without gain, and the bass boost was pure distortion. I've been trying to find a C5D used, but they're kind of end-game for portable DAC/AMPs so idk if anyone is selling.

I can't determine whether or not the note 3 is UAC1 compatible.

Check the Android USB audio thread for Danba list of compliant DAC/amps :)

FWIW I found the E17 disappointing also.
