I've spend the last couple of months trying DACs to pair with my Galaxy S4.
I love this old phone because 1) it has a replaceable battery, 2) its very repairable. I recently replaced the micro usb port for $4 and everything i plug into it now works perfectly without disconnect issues and 3) its a very thin phone.
I bought a Fiio q1 mkII and that worked with Hiby and UAPP but i needed it to work with Spotify as well.
There's old micro usb dac the GGMM A1. I liked it. It was simple and small, but maybe too much for my IEMs.
Then I found a decently priced Fiio E18 on ebay and I think I have a great pair.
Physically, the E18 is about as tall and as wide as the S4. I use both without a case and have them adhered together with some putty. Together they are very portable and pocketable.
I find that my KZ IEMs and my Koss DJ Pro 2 sounding cleaner than they did with the other DACs and sounding better than when they were driven directly by the S4.
I have the KZ ZST and the KZ ATE. They are low impedence and bass heavy. When i used them in the S4's headphone jack, the bass was sometimes too much. Now everything's just more pleasant.
I'm not an audiophile, but i like looking for enjoyable sound on the cheap and I think i found it in spades.
