Since got my sony mp3 player, I've been using it with the stock headphones which are earbuds going through your ear channel. So, they are almost completely cancelling and isolating the outside noise.

But that open-air thing is way different as far as I've read. It allows outside noise to get in and creates a feeling as if the music you're listening to is the background music of the life. True ?

Using my mp3 player on tram most of the time. So, the question is that with sennheiser HD 239, which is a open-air headphone, would I bothered with the noise of the crowd in the tram ? Likewise, would I bother the people with the leaking sound ? So, that's to say, do they leak so much ?

Open headphones and a train don't really mix. Open headphones are for listeing at home or in quiet surroundings. And yes, other people will hear your music.

There is still a pretty big difference between in ear buds and closed back headphones though.
