Oh ok, Thanks!

How about for a T50? Would you know roughly what a fair price would be for one?
I've seen one go for ~$900 a few years ago, wondering if I should pounce on one if I ever see another one at a similar price.
(Was in decent used condition w/ original hardcase)
If you want my honest opinion don't buy one based off SQ. I built a headphone based off of Kapton RP-18. Not only did it have a bass buzz in the right driver which needed fixing but I felt my Yamaha YH-100 creation headphones had better SQ merits overall (more natural and better dynamic). T50 is not a bad headphone, but for those prices just get an LCD-X off used market imho.

There is an Aiwa HP-500 on eBay rn. Maybe keep an eye on those. They are a T50 clone and supposedly a bit more mellow if that is your speed. I suspect they'll go for $500+, possibly considerably more depending on who sees them and bids. These are extremely rare.

As for going rates of OG Fostex T50's I'm not really sure, sorry can't help you there, I'm sure others will chime in here?

Thanks to @Angelic for sending this over for measuring.
This one was quite interesting.

Three main interesting points are that changing the rear-damping has little to no affect on the sound, closing the cup ports had no significant affect either, and it is quite picky with ear pads.
Fortunately, they arrived with an excellent ear pad choice.
None of my other pads worked at all.

The driver is interesting/unique.
Instead of having 2 terminals like usual, for the 2nd terminal, the foil/diaphragm extends outside of the driver and is screwed to the baffle and contact wire terminal.

This makes a driver transplant pretty much out of the question for this driver type.

I think the main flaw in this design is actually the baffle, which covers up the entire outer-ring of magnet holes on the baffle side.
It seems to hold back too much of the sound, so it's very mid-focused and on the extreme side of 'relaxed' and 'forgiving'.

Hello fellow ortho fans!

I randomly added a T50 v1 to my vintage hp stable. I was initially a little troubled by how many variations there are. I did a little dd/digging and am pretty sure it is in fact a v1.

* Unfortunately, my badges are missing and the pads are worn as expected. I don’t mind a worn/ vintage headphone as I have collected a few over the years. Especially for the price I payed lol

Only stand out feature I could identify was that the mesh material in front of the driver is dark compared to many other variants I have seen pics of… Also black dot stopper / silver on silver plug… My best bet would ( Edit: early production v1)

Let me know what you think!

Sound wise… Im impressed :)

received my first tds n-16-40 - after the mod of damping and removing the fabric from the front and selecting a sufficiently powerful source - they surprised me with an interesting sound

I see a thread of almost 1800 pages and I will try to use the search - I would like to find the largest membranes in terms of area of an orthodynamic design with circular tracks and circular magnetization, I would be grateful if someone could tell me something in this direction

That would probably be Oppo PM series, but you'll find better sonics elsewhere, imho, such as the Yamaha ortho's.

Depends on what model you're comparing to. Although I'd heard PM-3 a long time ago, I would say it has a "cleaner" sound overall, free of that common "haze" among vintage. PM-1 is a whole different beast, much better than aforementioned.

Never heard PM-1 but strongly disagree on PM-2. Transplanted HP-1's are much cleaner than PM-2's imho.

Hi, I bought this used pair of NAD RP18 planar headphones a number of years ago in Germany and I'm wondering if there's any interest on it from vintage headphone collectors? I'd be willing to sell it or trade for modern headphones/IEMs.

Ya, I wouldnt pay more than $200 for a very good condition set. But market price in NA eBay appears to be $300 or more for a set in similar condition to mfdoom’s example. Just not as common in NA I assume as in Europe.

There was a Lafayette Criterion RP50 on eBay the other day for like $210 shipped obo in really good condition. I passed because it appeared to be a rebranded kapton T50. Prefer mylar, want SS100 for $250... Id pay more if it could be proven that they were in perfect working order.

The reason why Id avoid paying too much is its a big gamble. Dont know if operating condition is sub optimal or repairable. Secondly, there are brand new planars in $4-700 range (HE6se and LCDX 2022) with WARRANTY that you might totally prefer sonically. No fuss modding, and no risk. For cheaper but less interesting there is Sundara and LCD2C but not heard the former.
