Have to update here too I feel, the AKG mod was a bit disappointing once I got to compare with the HP-3. This was fixed by adding four layers of 1mm thick felt and a small foam spacer to hold it behind the drivers.
Now they are very close to the HP-3, much more comfortable and I am really happy to use them

I am not a man of words when asked to describe sound signature. That is because I am neither a musician or a composer, nor a person with the ambition to write vague words just in order not to reveal my incompetency in telling true characteristics. The most I can say is that I love the way these sound. Honest, no colouring, perhaps a tiny bit dull. And as such, somewhat similar to those old fostex_rp-s to me, even though you cannot hang them (old Fostexes) all on the same peg.amazing ! How does it sound?

Wonderful Vintage ortho from Technics!

Are they really that good?
Bass is good but it has poor dynamic range and it has lower details than yamaha’sAre they really that good?
But best match for 7080 musics

It's an un-tensioned, center-pinched, large, rectangular planar! I wonder what would happen if someone like Snorry built a neo magnet frame for this diaphragm...Bass is good but it has poor dynamic range and it has lower details than yamaha’s

I agree with you, though. I've only heard the EAH-820, but it was not at same technicals as Yamaha, imho.
Yeah, I think It is very interesting, and this may similar to oppo’s planar magneticIt's an un-tensioned, center-pinched, large, rectangular planar! I wonder what would happen if someone like Snorry built a neo magnet frame for this diaphragm...

@Max Choiral was nice enough to PM me with some forum posts on neo magnet EAH-820. Pretty cool. Seems to have some midrange issues, but nice bass. Here's some pics:
I wish Snorry had kept the diaphragms center-pinched as not doing so might have created unwanted acoustic elements. Still, really cool.

And now I have a pair of HP-1s in my collection. Haven't had any time to test them more than to see that they make sounds though. They have a really ugly electrical tape repair and the earpads are pretty much worn out so I got them fairly cheap.
These might be getting a transplant but that will have to come in the future, probably late summer or something

Removed the tape fix today. It was pretty gross as the electrical tape and the tape bellow had done its best to return to crude oil
What I found was that the plastic band had cracked, seems to be a common issue. Instead of fabricating a new one though, I decided to repair it
Drilled some small holes in suitable places, put some thin plastic U-channel over it and used some very strong string to sow it back together! Turned out pretty neat, obviously doesn't look new but it works perfectly!
