I've been looking into getting a laptop strictly for playing music and maybe internet surfing. I don't particularly like USB for audio. This will be for my work rig which ideally I'd like to have some separation/isolation of ground so Toslink would be ideal.
 
So I'm looking for a laptop, doesn't have to be the latest and greatest but relatively new. Let's say W10 compatible but W7 is ok as well. Anyone have model #s they know or have ideas on how I can look for a laptop with a direct SPDIF output? I'd prefer Toslink but my DAC also has RCA spdif.

Not sure about PCs. I have an older MacBook Pro that has a mini Toslink out through the audio combination output.

I believe some of the older Dell XPS L502x laptops have combination toslink out.

Both excellent choices! Although for me I'm quite fond of the PCs so I'd probably lean towards the Dell laptops. The L502x does indeed have optical out -- I wonder how to research how new those got before moving onto the next frame. The L502x has an I5 on most models which can be switched out to i7 (but 2nd gen).
