[Hilum]

I just got the m50's (im a total headphone noob). I have heard some places that the ear pads start to crack and break over time. 
 
Is there any way to prolong their life? 
 
They feel fairly comfy to me so I would prefer not to switch to velour pads. But with that being said, what pads will fit on the m50?
 
Would doing the 'sock mod' keep them from cracking?
