Burton Directing Keaton, Nicholson, Basinger, Palance etc with Elfman doing the score. A little dated but never surpassed.

That's true.  Definitely the worst thing ever to happen to the franchise.  I'd rather watch the Adam West version.

Take Shelter 8/10 agreed. Got under the skin.
The ending was a bit unnecessary I feel but didn´t do much to ruin the movie anyway :)

Tim Burton done a lot of interesting stuff even though Johnny Depp is overemployed. I hate seeing Depp doing the same routine no matter what movie he is in and what it´s about.
I did like Edward Scissorhands a lot but was quite young when I saw it and it was one of the first with the Depp eye roll routine lol. Beetlejuice was fun as heck and no problem with his Batman movie. Why so serious.

Because Batman is the Dark Knight, not the Light Knight.  Thankfully Chris Nolan restored order to the universe which was his sole intent after seeing the bastardization of Batman.  Not sure about this Catwoman business though.  >.<

The second Burton Batman really sucked, they tried too hard to hit it out of the park with enough stars and storylines for two movies, and too much misplaced comic relief.

As far as Johnny Depp goes, when asked if the character he was playing in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies was a homosexual, he said something like, "of course, all the characters I play are gay". What a "method".

Great to see he have self distance at least :)

Contraband - 7.9/10

Can always rely on Mark Wahlberg for good and entertaining (and often dumb) action movies. Liked "The Italian Job", "The Shooter" and now this.
Biggest F-ing thing about this movie is that they swore so f-ing much. It's like they only knew how to say the f-ing F-word and none of the other good ones. Yeah..just like this.
This fact stuck out and kind of annoyed me. I don't mind swearing in movies, but it just seemed phony. What's interesting is that you can watch "Casino" and it feels totally normal.

Giovanni Ribisi did quite well in this movie. He's one creepy dirt-bag I wouldn't want to mess with. Who knows what he'd do to me.

BTW I'd say Mark Wahlberg's acting skills are just average. He gets the job done. I've liked him in most movies except for the one where he talks to a tree.

J.K. Simmons was kind of miscast in this movie I think.

BTW have you seen "Casino"? I love that movie. Need to watch it again. I actually prefer it to "Goodfellas".

Haven't watched a lot of movies lately. I did watch "Whale Wars: Viking Shores" last night. Watched all five 45 minute episodes starting at 3am and finished them!!
It does really make you question things a bit.

I think Burton is great at creating a totally unique visual world in his movies.  But I don't think he's always very good at telling a story.  He reminds me of George Lucas in that way.  Extremely talented, but arrogant, they both try to do too much and have too much control over their movies instead of just focusing on what they're good at.  They both need to work with someone or a few people to develop the story and write the script and maybe even direct, while they focus on visuals and details and the production aspect.

I've seen so many Burton films that are visually stunning, but it feels like he forgot to make a good movie with all of the props.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 9/10 Great cast. Great story.  Great director.  What more can you ask.  If you're looking for explosions and superheroes, look elsewhere.

What...you mean a movie called "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" doesn't have explosions and superheros?

This is actually playing in my local theater. It's one in downtown Kalamazoo that plays stuff the other theaters will not.

Only place that played "Tree of Life" when it came out.
