For example, what is the difference between "Portable Headphone Amps" and "Portable Source Gear"? I see some products that are DAC/amps being posted in the "Source Gear" sub-forum, and some in "Headphone Amps". Which should go where? Also, does "Dedicated Source Components" mean streamers and standalone DACs only, or can desktop DAC/amps go here too? I'm often confused as to where products that contain both a DAC and an amplifier should go.

Maybe there should be some kind of summary at the top of each sub-forum as to what belongs in that sub-forum. Right now, it's a bit inconsistent and can be difficult to find threads for certain products.

As a general guideline, portable amplifiers don't decode digital signals and portable sources do, but it's not a firm rule. If an item has a DAC inside but it's mostly used as a portable amp, then it would be fine to start that thread in the Portable Amplifiers if the OP thinks that's a better fit. Dedicated source components are devices that only serve as a source, like a standalone DAC or CD transport.

There may be multiple threads around the same product depending on the topic of conversation, so if you're looking for a discussion on a certain component we recommend using the search function located on the right side of the navigation bar to see the available threads. You can also use the advanced search function to really narrow down what you're looking for.
