Hi Tieman,

Would you also include a 'Heir Audio Rendition' amp. Is that also good enough to be considered?

Thanks

Mark

Sorry, I'm not an expert on amps. The amps I mentioned (besides the ones I own) were a quote from another Headfi-er in the Mad Dog thread.

Mad Dogs are also modded T50RP's.
If amps sound good with the Mad Dog (and/or other modded T50RP like the Paradox and Thunderpants), they should also be fine with the ZMF.

So maybe you could ask this here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/666284/mrspeakers-mad-dog-impressions-and-discussion-thread

ZMFs are far superior.  Better definition, better tonality, better bass, better everything.  I had a pair of ATH M50s a couple of years ago and sold them.  Nice headphones, but not in the same league as the ZMFs.

I've also found that the volume knob is almost exact to volume level from the headphone with the Hifiman he-500, ofcourse I realize maybe not as many people own the he-500 as well though.

To anyone who's tried both versions, do you think the bass heavy version actually has more realistic mids?

Which is why I decided to paint a pair of my own, but much glossier:

Those look great!  So many sweet paints out there.  I almost spent two hours in hobby lobby the other day.  That place is dangerous!

Thankts! I'm still trying to figure out the camera so the picture isn't great. I was actually really close to getting a can of red and blue paint for each side like the DT48A (and other audiology headphones), but the idea seemed tacky when I thought about it in the store. That reminds me though, I should get another one of those heads at Hobby Lobby to use as a headphone stand.

Yeah headphone photography was harder than I thought it would be...I found that an almost reverse three point system with side light and then a harsh back light has worked well then exposing to the headphones so that all else blows out.  Still working on it...

Now that's an idea...cool stuff!  Certainly an acquired taste I suppose...

I've been meaning to invest in a lightbox, but natural light seems to work well enough if I can find an ideal spot. Also using a camera I'm more familiar with helps...

The idea's cooler for IEMs, but I really appreciated it on my old DT48's because they didn't have indicated sides. Then again, doing it on such large cups looks slightly ridiculous:

To make it even harder on you, the bassy ones sound a lot like the ESW9 but more spacious and a little less intimacy in the midrange in exchange for a little more realism.
