So, who is going?

I read the renovations at the hotel are not going well, and as a result, CanJam will be in a tent this year. Has the potential for a really loud environment, depended on traffic and construction. Ug.

A tent? With heating or something? It's going to get cold up there...

There are other conference rooms at that hotel, as it is large. CanJam does not have to be around the atrium.

I don't think discussing other possibilities is productive as the decision has already been made. This letter was sent to vendors:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DENVER – (August 19, 2016) – The Rocky Mountain International Audio Fest (RMAF) has been notified by the Marriott Denver Tech Center (DTC) that second phase renovations have been delayed (see attached statement from the Marriott) and will not be complete by the start of the 13th Annual RMAF in October. In response to this development, RMAF and the Marriott DTC have devised an alternative plan to expand the show into other available space on the property.

Marjorie Baumert, director and co-founder of the Rocky Mountain International Audiofest reports, “RMAF has a full slate of booked exhibitors for both the 2-channel and CanJam features of the show, alongside a host of industry vendors. The show is packed to the gills! We can’t thank the audio community enough for coming together to generously support us. We are also grateful to the Marriott DTC for their dedication to housing an exemplary show, despite challenges due to the ongoing renovations. Thanks to the Marriott and our exhibitors, the annual Audio Fest is slated for another enormously successful show October 7-9, 2016.”

Due to circumstances beyond the hotel’s control, the following spaces will not be available for the show: all Atrium sleeping rooms, Front Range exhibit floors 2-5 (including 550, 589, 535), and all meeting space including Bluebell, Cottonwood, Conifer, Iris, Larkspur, Lupine, Primrose, Spruce, The Rocky Mountain Event Center
(CanJam) and the open Atrium area.

In order to accommodate space requirements for RMAF and other upcoming conferences, the Marriott DTC will provide semi-permanent conference structures, including industrial tents and broadcast quality pods. Equipment specifications and exact layout regarding the following adjustments will be detailed in an announcement next week. The plan is as follows:
  1. All 4th and 5th floor Front Range exhibit rooms will now be moved to the Summit Tower side.
  2. CanJam will be located in a large tent located in the front of the hotel.
  3. CanJam Atrium spaces will be moved to the Summit tower side of the lobby.
  4. Lobby meeting rooms will be located in pods near the entrance of the hotel.

Other news regarding this year’s event:
  1. RMAF will present the 2nd Annual Rocky Mountain International HiFi Press Awards (RIHPA) on Friday, October 7, 2016. The RIHPA has built on the
  2. success of the inaugural event in 2015 by adding several new international publications.
  3. RMAF is pleased to welcome back returning U.S. and international press that continue to support the industry. In addition, Lincoln Chen, executive editor of the prestigious Audiotechnique, Hong Kong, will be in attendance for the first time.
  4. Due to the great feedback received in regard to the 2015 Entry Level Room series, RMAF is increasing the number of those rooms from three to five. The price points are $500, $1000, $1500, $2500 and $5000.
  5. There will be social events, live musical entertainment, and a host of seminars led by industry experts.

Hopefully, the tents are going to be as nice as the mobile spaces that were near the pool at the South Coast Plaza Westin during CanJam@SoCal.

I'll be there. There's not much that will stop me from going to RMAF. It was my first official CanJam experience, so it has a bit of personal significance, and it's usually the most cost effective one for me to attend since I live in the Midwest. I love the SoCal show too but travel and lodging are typically more expensive.

I'll be there -- will be my first ever audio show! Really looking forward to it, and having never been to one I honestly have no idea what to expect.

Dumb question: can I "see/hear enough" in just one day? (e.g. Friday when they open to general public at noon) Or do you have to plan on actually going more than once?

I clearly have no idea how to plan for it, other than buying my ticket and starting a list of booths/vendors I want to visit...

Any helpful tips appreciated.

You should really go all 3 days (or at least 2!). 1 day will not be enough, unless you have a very specific adgenda and no intention of socializing. It never feels long enough, no matter how long it is!

Right on - maybe I'll buy tickets for Friday and Saturday and then just play it by ear...

Depends on what you want to see. I highly recommend downloading the excel file of exhibitors about a week before the event, and mark up what you want to see. It's very easy to get distracted.

Also, this year sounds like it might be the worst RMAF ever (logistically). There is massive construction at the hotel, so lower your expectations. :frowning2:

Great idea on the Excel sheet.

Honestly, I think I'm only going to be interest in the CanJam-type of stuff. Don't need to hear living room set-ups/speakers/subs/receivers/etc. I may make it to one uber-high-end just to know what nirvana sounds like, but that's it.

Otherwise, I'll just be curious to test the headphones and dacs/amps I always read about here but figured I'd never see in person. Regarding the construction...I guess we'll get a true test on how good the isolation is in these headphones.

CanJam tent. Not looking forward to that, but maybe it will be OK. That said, you really should hear some high end rooms. Also, Schiit, Stax, JPS usually have rooms. There may be more. Hopefully the Focals will be in a room to.

Yes! Honestly, that's what I'm hoping for the most -- the chance to hear the Elear and Utopia.
