A side note: Thank you to whoever bought the B-stock Lokius. You probably saved my marriage.

Lol! I've been upstaged. Heading to Ebay now before @JamminVMI chimes in with his Rudolph knob... 🤣
Why bless your heart! Kind of you to mention Rudolph II! Here he is!

Interesting story:

I was sent a Schiit Vali 3 for review and testing. When I take photos I usually take the units cover off
to take internal shots...ans just because I like to see the internals...that old electrical engineering part of me.

Well usually its a few screws and pull off the volume knob ans your in...well maybe a few more screws on the rear plate for the rcas etc..
Well the Vali 3's volume knob did not want to come off...it took a lot of pressure and I was worried I would destroy the pot.
Think someone super glued this one on!!
Well...I kept at it ans bam! It final came off but I tore the vol pot apart!!
Nice now we have a dead unit...great.
Well...upon closer inspection I notice the small Alps pots have 4 small tabs that are folded that keep the rotating structure inside the unit.
Well I cleaned the internals and the pot surface and wiper...carefully put it back inside and rebent the 4 tabs...tested it ans voila as good as new!

Amazing...now for those smaller pots that I find at times to be scratchy and we try to spray in contact cleaner or deoxit..well I will unfold those 4 tabs, remove and really clean well!!

Ha! Good ending to a potential bad situation!
I have replaced these small pots before, on my Piety for sure...I actually destroy the pot enclosure so only the pins are still soldered in the pcb. Then I use a good solder removal tool and remove each of the pins individually....clean out the holes and install a new pot. Well now I will try the remove and clean and lubricate in the future...

One of the reasons (as if I needed a reason) in getting Vali 3 was the fact that my Piety volume pot was scratchy and my OCD just would not tolerate it. I may investigate removing the cover and using a bit of Deoxit when I get around to setting it up as part of a bedside HP rig.

Hey Ripper,

I just received my cd copy of The New Cool.

Love it. Great recording of two of my favorite players..ty..-ab
I'm glad you're enjoying it. 2 legends of Jazz, IMHO.

Thanks. Deciding on a path. Add a higher end DAC to my Mjolnir3 and HE1000 Stealths OR go back to my Asgard3 and Ananda Stealths and relax...
Closing the loop on this with a contrary opinion. I sent the HEK Stealths back and a lightly used MJ3, w/ balanced interconnects and headphone cable, will be for sale soon. The HEKs are better as is the MJ3 but for my use, listening while I work, the cost of that system isn't worth the limited sonic improvement while I am distracted :)stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

If there is ever an ultimate Syn, how about one that's more like an add-on to Freya or Kara? So, surround, add preamp to taste....
As in a card? That's a great idea, though I'm not sure how it'd work if you had to add an extra volume control. I was thinking about the Syn, and really to get the best value out of it, you'd want to be using more than just the ability to hook up another couple of speakers.
As an aside, I have a lot of footage I shot at a friend's house about the Syn, and I had to clean up my room massively to be able to shoot anything about it here.
Tonight's Jazz recommendation is an absolute favorite of mine. Dave Holland on stand-up bass and Pepe Habichuela on guitar merge to form a bit of Spanish flamenco-like jazz that is an unexpected pleasure. I think (hope) you fine folks will enjoy it!

Very well recorded too!

We see that sort of driving behavior every day around here. That's why driving has become a chore instead of a fun excursion. It's best to avoid the interstate highways at all cost. :)
OK back to the tube discussion.
I always take it as a personnal challenge. It keeps one paying attention on the road, which keeps you out of accidents way more effectively than driving slowly does.

He's back! Finally!

And no worries, I'll be drinking a cup of Keurig-made coffee while I eat it. Two wrongs make a right, right? 🤣
Keurig-made WATER. There, that’s right…
