Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

I've probably repeated this 100 times. But let me say it again. The s2 and any 6x0 can be stretched to fit ANY size head...even Frankenstein heads. Simply extend the cups fully and gently bend the metal section of the headband with your hands. Go to the opposite side and do the same. Then try it on. Eventually you will get the clamp exactly to your liking. It's irritating to see people suggesting putting the headphones between a set of books or whatever. All that does is compress the pads. And while that does reduce clamp, you are doing the life of the pads no favors.
I did this and the S2 went from being painful to the most comfortable headphone I own.

Hi guys,

Is the HD660S2 worth it MSRP at $600? Where i live it's the only price i can find.
They are a great headphone. I paid over $600.00, used, but I live in Canada.
Where are you located?

I live in Brazil. They are recently released here for R$ 3000, that is $600. But it is a launch sale, the real price will be $800 here.
Yikes! Can you order overseas or will they kill you on taxes?
The MSRP in USA was $599.00. In Canada, it was $799.00 (in Canadian dollars).
I think they are very worth $500.00 to $600.00US. and these are my 8th pair of Senn's. Safe to say I have not always been a fan.

Of course taste is subjective. Can you test them out first and return them if you don't like them?

And pulling out the foam pieces does wonders, for MY preferences.

They would kill me on taxes, yes, haha.

I can return in a 7 day window, so i think i can test it in that week.

My problem appeared to be that I wasn't unplugging the cords so I could flex them enough. I've since done as you've suggested and it is indeed improving the situation. I will say however that my 10 year old 600s are still far more comfortable - but the gap is closing thanks to you :)

Given how the 660S2 scales with nicer gear, you may find it more of a value if you have the kind of gear that can get the most out of it. Funny how subjective value can be....

I've got my HD660S2 on (with a little EQ) running through my Woo WA3. Not feeling the need to switch to my ZMF Atrium right now.

how would you rate this album? it is a really rough album which has mastering issues.

Firstly thank you all. After reading my way through the thread I took the plunge and ordered some S2’s. They sound wonderful and a big step up from my vintage ATH-911’s. Currently running them from a FiiO M15S in desktop mode with high / ultra high gain. I’m wondering if I would get any benefit from a dedicated desktop headphone amp such as the FiiO K7 or K9?

It wouldn't be a night and day difference, but it would be an improvement. Tube amps will give you a different sound and there are always iFi amps which can add some bass boost. A desktop amp can fill them out more and add a little something to the sound, depending on the amp.

I think if you want an upgrade, save more money and then invest. I don't think you will be upgrading much, if at all, with K7 or K9.

Better think if a tube amp would be beneficial or bring you more joy. There are plenty of choices and brands you could look at.

Cheers!
