Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!
Nov 7, 2015 at 5:02 AM Post #932 of 6,505
I would think the number one thing being addressed by the hd800s is how picky it is. My Schiit Stack of a Bifrost Uber and Lyr2 is not enjoyable with my hd800's. Too edgy. The hd800's are nothing less than glorious with my Audio-gd Master 11. The hd800's sound great with my ifi-idsd as well. Surprisingly well. Yes, universal acceptance by all amps with the hd800s is the goal. I bet the warm hearted executives at Sennheiser price the new kit at $1899.00. (If they know what's good for them)

The HD 800s are just fine and dandy with the auralic taurus too thanks. I agree the iDSD is a good match but I think the 700s are even better and especially if you want to go on the road with them.

I still don't get the HD 800 unbearable treble bit unless you have stuffed them full of carpet trimmings!!!

You should read my post.  'A little bit better' is PART OF THE SCAM.   Let's the sell the old ones at the inflated price rather than dropping the price on them as they did with the HD700.

Whining, whining and more whining, keeps people with much time on their hands busy I guess :).

What do you expect? The HD800 is pretty darn good even in stock form imo. Where do you want senn to go? Completely change the voicing to please a new crowd and imply the previous model voicing wasn't right?

They're being very consistent imo. The hd800 does not need a metamorphosis to sound great, it just needs a bit of taming in some narrow bands. This is just what senn did with this tuned damper (and for those who think this is just cosmetic, no r&d was done, I conjure you to prove me what the heck you know about headphone r&d).

Price will be what it it will be, 1700-1800USD with the balanced cable sounds like a pretty good guess to me. Too much blood for you? Just skip it and buy an hd800 in the FS for half the price and try to replicate someone else's mods...

Along with the baseless speculation, we have a winner on our hands.

OK. I'm just trying to understand why people are arguing about it being more expensive when we don't even have a firm price yet, or even know what it will ship with, cable-wise.

Some people just have to have something to say.......

If they haven't got facts, then speculation and innuendo will do until the facts show up.

Hasn't the European price being released?   I've seen people saying $1599 Euros.

The HD800 price dropped in Europe recently, unless I'm very much mistaken.

yep, HD850 would have been best.

I wonder how they'll name the next generation as the HD-1000 existed. HD 900+HD 950 maybe.

I'd think they will still use the HD1000 name (kind of like how AKG reused the K340 name), the 1000 had the sub title "Charleston" and was limited production IIRC, they could just replace the subtitle with something else. I don't think many people nowadays remember of its existence anyway.

I could have sworn I clicked on the HD800S thread, but it's the HD650 thread.

Don't fret, Sennheiser is quite happy that a really, really old design is still being mentioned. It will garner some extra sales for sure.

Beyer T1.2 replaces T1.1 though stock of the latter is still available at discounts on Amazon etc

I think all of this supposed confusion will become clear when Senn officially launch the thing

I just want to add that the price of the T1 V2 actually went down over the T1. Fingers crossed Sennheiser follows suit

But including a balanced cable...who knows? We'll have to wait and see.

In order to avoid confusion on the consumer end, Sennheiser will eventually discontinue the HD800.
It doesn't make sense to have two similar sounding models on the market as the consumer will always go for the one which is "a little better".
I also think price will be the same as the original HD800 price or only slightly more.
The idea of having an improved HD800 for a sensible price will tempt a lot of people who at the moment think of going for a LCD4 etc.

Why? The HD600s and HD650s ran side by side for years and years. I actually preferred the former.

Even if Grell's comment that the S model is only slightly better can be considered understatement both the HD800 and HD800s share the same/similar sound signature; this can't be said about the HD600/650.

So.....what?
I don't think that they will run side by side for years to come, something you hinted at.
